Georgia has finished 2nd, 6th, 4th, 7th and 1st in the nation the last 5 years. Alabama is the reason they haven't finished higher than that, as they have been the premier team in all of CFB for 10+ years.Actually most the WRs will be back.
I am not sure Georgia has built up yet either. I am just not 100% sold on Georgia long-term. Was last year a fluke or the rise of a regular dynasty? @Red_Alert gave you a hard time about this but he has a point. Georgia gets overhyped all of the time and falls flat in big games. Kirby is changing the narrative but I am not sure if it is 100% yet.
They have the advantage today but I am not so sure their defense and offense is light years ahead of Alabama like you are making it. You say we haven't seen a defense like Georgia. I disagree. Tennessee has played pretty stout defenses with Alabama, LSU, and Kentucky. I think they have defenses "like" Georgia. Maybe not 100% as good but they are not far off. Even Pittsburgh had a tricky defense.
I also think Alabama has one of the best RBs and QBs in the nation and are still a major threat. They don't deserve to be ranked in top 5 but if you went off my opinion about who is the best team in the nation, I would still go with Alabama right now. Georgia is 2-8 versus Saban with one of those wins being in 2007 during Alabama's 7-6 season.
Tennessee is #1 in playoffs and it took an amazing home environment and some bad plays by Alabama for Tennessee to win.
I am really nervous about Tennessee's chances today but statements like "Tennessee hasn't seen a defense like Georgia" come off as hollow to me when we have played teams like Alabama, Kentucky, and LSU to date. I could say Georgia hasn't seen an offense like Tennessee (although they played Oregon and I would say Oregon has a great offense, I am not sure Oregon's offense was clicking in week 1 though).
Offensively -- I am not saying Georgia is light years better than Alabama. I think Georgia and Bama are very comparable offensively. I think Georgia has better WR's and TE's, Alabama has a better RB and QB. Defensively -- I think Georgia is better. Bama has struggled against any team with a vertical passing game this year -- Texas would have beat Bama if their QB doesn't get hurt. He threw for 140 yards in the 1st quarter against Bama before getting hurt.
And I have no doubt Tennessee will be the best offense Georgia has seen. I wouldn't put down Tennessee's offense by comparing Oregon to them. I think Tennessee has NFL caliber talent at the skill positions and they are going to put pressure on Georgia's defense all game. I just think Georgia simply has more talent.
