Official Game thread for the only game that matters today

just kidding on only game that matters

I am worried that one of the X-Factor could be the crowd and penalties on Tennessee's offense.

Brock Bowers sucks btw

He will make plays against Tennessee. You watch. The key on defense for us is getting Stetson frazzled and stopping the run.

Dang why did I respond to you :dhd: ? I always love your troll posts.

Out of curiosity, when was the last time the #1 Playoff team was an 8 point underdog in a game?

Let’s go!

Can’t wait to see that Vol offense face that UGA defense.

I'll take Georgia at home, but only because they are at home. Hopefully, it will be as entertaining as the Alabama-Tennessee game.

Since the playoff system, never. But under the AP or coaches polls, I know bama was between a 9.5 and 10.5 favorite over ND in the BCS title game. Regular season I can’t recall.

Come onnnnnnn, giant meteor

I put some V's on UT to cover, so congrats Georgia on a blowout victory

My fear is penalties (i.e. false starts) that puts our offense behind the chains.

This team seems to be able to drone out atmosphere though. The key concern for Georgia is getting behind early. It is a very intriguing matchup because Georgia has a lot better defense (although mostly untested against their schedule) while Tennessee has, arguably, the better quarterback.

QB play and defense are the keys to winning titles and you got one scenario for one team and the other scenario for the other team.

This thread title is Liberace’s bedazzled jock strap.

SEC conference championship game!

I gotta be honest, I am very concerned.
Not crazy about how Georgia matches up with us.
UT is capable of winning obviously but I just don’t trust our defense enough to be too terribly confident. Still see a lot of sloppy tackling (or lack there of) and players being out of position. UGA will kill ya if ya do that too often.

I am the opposite on matchup, I don't think they matchup well against us but the game being in Athens has me concerned.

The key liability to Georgia is Stetson Bennett. I am just not sure he can keep up if game turns into shoot out. However, Tennessee will really need to play disciplined on offense and defense.

EDIT: The key with Georgia (and even Ohio State) is that they haven't played teams that can seriously challenge them with vertical passing. Therefore that unit in the Georgia defense is just unknown right now (same with Ohio State). It isn't that they are great or bad, it is just unknown.

There are a lot of unknown with Georgia coming into this game overall. With the exception of Oregon, which was ambushed in a first game with a new coach and had not found themselves yet, Georgia hasn't had a team capable of truly challenging them across the board.
Are they the Georgia team that beat Alabama in the title game or the Georgia team that got ran out of Atlanta?

Home field is huge, it is in every SEC venue plus Scheming a defense is Kirby Smarts wheelhouse. I think we’ll see more sniper “injures” in this one than we’ve been seeing to breakup momentum. I don’t recall Kentucky doing that at all, it surprised me … and prob hurt their defense TBH.
I think UGA will be running the ball early to set up play action to the tight ends for 1st downs and ball control to keep the Volfense on the sidelines so I HOPE the defense has it’s act together because if not, it may not just be a loss, it could get a little ugly.

I don't buy into the argument of teams faking injuries to slow down the offense. Kiffin did it with Ole Miss but most of the rest of these teams really are having players get the wind knocked out, etc.

Georgia's weakness could be their secondary (it was last year). Now Tennessee will need to run and convert short passes because that drives the long game.

Interestingly, Georgia was practicing for Tennessee in the off season which was very smart on their part.

Tennessee's defense will be about 3rd down/4th down defense. Tennessee tends to do a good job stopping teams on 1st and 2nd down but has given up a lot of critical 3rd/4th downs that have kept offenses on the field (notably in the Florida and Alabama games). Statistically, Tennessee doesn't look that bad here but that is because we played Akron, Ball State, UT Martin, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, etc. If you take the meaningful matchups, we were porous in this spot. This is why I don't like statistics.

The QB that has won a national championship and is throwing for over 300 yards a game is the liability for Georgia?

Go watch the 2021 SEC Championship game. Also keep in mind that those WRs that burned Georgia are not on field anymore.

Hell also watch Missouri this year.

The difference between Bryce Young and Stetson Bennet is huge. Now then again, Georgia has better skill players (notably TE) than Alabama with the exception of Jamyr Gibbs. Stetson is a good QB but he isn't Bryce Young. He will still put up numbers on Tennessee because our defense just doesn't have the talent but if they get by Tennessee, I don't see them beating Alabama.
