GAME #10 Utah @ #19 Oregon State / 6 pm pdt / FS1

Utah disappointed me greatly.

Utah's offense simply isn't good enough to win the PAC 12 right now. If they get Rising back, maybe that changes.

That game surprised me a lot.

Utah's offense came into the game ranked 11th out of 12 in the PAC 12. I'm not that surprised that they continued to struggle. Smith has made Corvallis a tough place to play too. OSU is 14-1 at home since 2021. Their only loss was a 17-14 loss to USC last year (A game where they were -4 in the TO margin and still nearly won).

That game surprised me a lot.
Beavs have a good D. They just had a bad day in Pullman last week.
Utah's O is really weak right now. They're doomed if they don't get Rising back.

Beavs secondary is not as strong as they were last year. Utah just doesn't have the QB play right now for that to have mattered last night.

They've held 3 teams under 10pts. They are a good D. Not great, but good.

I don't disagree that they are a good defense overall. But their secondary is susceptible, Wazzu showed that. The rest of their opponents just didn't have a strong enough passing game to exploit it.

Which is why it wasn't a surprise at all that they did well against a Utah team with no passing game. Hence my first comment. Why anyone was surprised is beyond me unless you just haven't watched any of Utah's games so far.

I picked Oregon State to win and cover. I wasn't surprised at all.

Yep. I heard someone call Utah "Iowa but in Red and White" and looking at the numbers he's not wrong.
Great defense but without Cam this season Utah is 4.46 Off YPP (118th), Iowa is 4.92 (103rd) going into this week.
Last year with Cam, Utah avg. 6.52 YPP (22nd)

Smith was a really good hire.

Without Cam, the offense is really bad. They really need Rising back and playing at a high level or they're going to lose more games.

I agree. It will be interesting to see what happens with OSU and Smith moving forward. I know he's a former OSU player but will he stick around if OSU is relegated to the G5? He's a high level coach and will be pursued by other programs IMO.

He can come back to UW after DeBoer gets swooped up by a higher paying program.

Public school can't afford the arms race going on now for coaches. Keeping DeBoer and Grubb after this season seems a far reach. Maybe DeBoer, but Grubb has to be gone.

Yeah, Utah got way too much love for the Florida win. And I think Colorado got way too much love for the TCU win. I don't think either Florida or TCU end the season ranked. We shall see.

I think this is going to be the rule going forward. The only thing is I think some of them will wait on a "good" P2 offer. But, money may rule and they'll be willing just to make deposits while getting beat a lot.
