Public school can't afford the arms race going on now for coaches. Keeping DeBoer and Grubb after this season seems a far reach. Maybe DeBoer, but Grubb has to be gone.

That wouldn't be a bad move if UW needed a new HC. That said, I think moving to the Big Ten made it much less likely that UW will lose DeBoer to another college program. He's not a guy who has ties to any other big time programs.

One of the guys covering MSU had info that they were interested enough in DeBoer to perhaps go higher than 9m/yr. There's no way UW can counter that on half a Big10 revenue share.
There's more to coaching at this level than money and there's no saying he would accept it, but this windfall money situation along with desperate alumni is creating a cascading arms race at college HC that will leave many old school stalwart programs unable to keep up.
