2022 College Football Playoff Discussion Thread

I don't like CCG's period. No matter what format is used...each has its own set of potential issues.
K. If both UW and Oregon lose this week Oregon is in because they win the tiebreaker with Utah. That makes sense.
If Oregon loses to the beavs, but UW wins there is a crazy formula where Utah gets in over Oregon. It's beyond stupid.

Forget about whatever crazy math has to happen for UW to get in. I mean at least they also beat one of the others, but Utah being in over a team the JUST lost to and are tied with is dumb.

Yeah the 2021 champs. But we are in 2022 and they won't make the game so
Utah are the current football champs of the PAC. That’s how it works in sports.

Why did you dredge up the same conversation again? I noticed you didn’t bump this thread after getting clown stomped by Washington

Not really though. You can call 6-6 UCLA getting in that one time an issue, but at least it was based on a clear standard that everyone understands.

However, there are also times where the 2 or 3 best teams are in 1 division. That's how you end up with blowouts and CCG's that don't really help your conference champions sos.

Seems like not too long ago, some of you Northerners were talking about the North being significantly better. It's why the conference switched formats. Trying match up the 2 best teams regardless of division.

In true PAC fashion though, all of the teams that have been struggling for a while suddenly improved, some of them significantly, and chaos has ensued. lol

I mean, if that’s the case it’s pretty ironic that the change of formats immediately benefits the south again… lol

For real though, you’re not finding the best two teams when you start defaulting to weird tie breakers. If you want to do it this way go by record, head to head, and then just default to CFP ranking when you get into weird three/four way ties.

I just can't get behind any formula that would put Utah in over Oregon with both tied.

It's a bad format.

2003 SEC East race was a cluster.

Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee all had 2 losses. Tennessee beat Florida that year and lost to Georgia and Auburn, Georgia beat Tennessee but lost to Florida and someone else, Florida lost to Tennessee but beat Georgia and had another loss.

It literally came down to who was ranked highest in the AP poll which favored Georgia so they went.

How would that have been relevant? Bring up Utah not being this seasons, the 2022 champions of the pac 12, after washington barely beat oregon? No it makes mire sense after utah lost another conference game. And no thats not how it works when each season is an entity all to them selves. New season new champs

It aint relevant now either. Utah are the PAC champs until unseated. End of story.

But keep looking foolish if you want.
Technicality here: Utah has officially been unseated as champ.

Different seasons. They will always be 2021 champs. Nothing in this season changes that. They are in pursuit of another championship not trying to extend their championship

Only a duck can believe there is no current PAC champ.

You're all by yourself on this and you're wrong.

Utah won the PAC last season making them the defending champions and no one else has won this year yet.

As defending conference champions, they remain conference champions until someone else wins the conference.

Whoever wins the conference this year will be the new conference champion and when the season starts next year, they will be the defending champs until someone else wins it.

That is how it works.

they are not the defending champion. they arent defending it from anyone because it cant be taken away. 2021 championship is theirs. they wont be known as the former champions.
2022 is a new season. if they win it in 2022 they are back to back champions not a continued reign. they would be announced as the 2022 Pac 12 champions or the back to back champions. NOT with a :and still pac 12 champions."
it isnt a continuous championship to be passed like a boxing belt or MMA where a champion is champion from day of win to day of loss.
its a yearly championship. when the new season is upon us the race for that years championship starts and last years champion is just last years champion.

so when a senior wins a championship in Golf, wrestling, track, gymnastics does that mean their cant never be a new champion because no one can take it. No it means they won it that year and the next year someone else wins it.
