2023 Playoff Thread

I don't care if the Kraken win another playoff game this season...they took out the defending champs and that's good enough for me.

This given, it's twice as likely the NHL team with the best regular season record is going to get knocked out of the playoffs in the first round as it is to get to the Cup Final.

It's why playoff hockey is so awesome. It's really a totally different season.

Anybody care who wins tonight's game?

Besides KellyClarkson_RobotDevil?
I cared. I typically root against teams who spend big at the deadline to try to buy a Cup. The Rangers did that with the Tarasenko and Kane moves. I enjoyed watching the young, fast and hungry Devils team control the game from start to finish while Kane and Tarasenko were non-factors and the Devils' underrated offseason acquisition of a grinder like Palat was much more of a factor in the game.

I don't really care who wins the Devils-Canes series; just want a good show and hope for another Game 7. Same with the Stars-Kraken series; although, I've always been a Pavelski fan and would like to see him lift the Cup once. If Pavelski gets to the West Finals, I will be a Stars fan the rest of the way.

I DO care who wins the other two series though. I'm temporarily a huge Knights and Panthers fan.

You must've loved watching the Bruins go down in flames then.

I'll be rooting for the Panthers, but probably not the Knights. Really, all the 2nd round series look good except for Devils-Canes. Expect a lot more Canada-friendly calls from the refs, even worse than the standard number the Leafs already enjoy.

Hell yeah, I was pulling for the B's to go down. That was one reason. Another reason was because even before the playoff seedings were set I was saying "if the Bruins have to see Florida they're gonna have a problem" because I thought Florida would be a tough matchup for them. I was one of the significant minority who foresaw it and it's always an extra little something special when you're proven right despite strong odds and popular opinion.

I've typically rooted against the Knights recently for the same reason I rooted against the Rangers in this playoff, but even stronger. Ever since McCrimmon took over as GM he's played Fantasy Hockey with his roster - loading up on high-dollar big-name players while increasingly depleting the quality depth they expeditiously achieved under McPhee. My distaste for how VGK is managed is trumped, however, by my distaste for the Canadian Oilers organization, their GM Ken Holland (who ran the Wings into the ground) and McDavid's press (I have a natural dislike for media darlings). Regardless of who wins that VGK/EDM series, I'm gonna want them to lose to whoever wins the DAL/SEA series.

Florida's best case in the playoffs has generally been to play spoiler, except for that one time in 1996. But remember that they won the President's Trophy a year ago, and were largely the same team this past season, with mainly the drop in performance due to injury. They could continue to do damage and advance.

Yeah, I can see that. I don't like bad organizations like Vegas or NYR either. The Oilers have just been so pathetic for so long, that I've generally not felt the same about them.

Who is this Joe guy on the Star's team?

Three goals in one game...wow
