Nebraska Cornhuskers 2023 Recruiting Thread (Commit list in OP)

Apparently already signed as well

Lenhardt set to announce soon

Apparently Malachi Coleman is tearing it up at the AA Game practices, earned Top 5 performer two straight days in practice. Solidifying his rating is a good thing and, outside shot at maybe getting a 5th star on a service or two.

Also, there's rumblings that Ethan Nation did enough in practices at the UA game to receive a bump on some sites. Could end up with a 5th composite 4-star if that is the case.

Forget. But we have 1 or 2 big visits this weekend. Right?

No HS kids this weekend... been some rumblings of a OT transfer from Stanford visiting this weekend. Not sure if that's happening or not.

Here's what I can say with relative certainty - Nebraska is done with HS recruiting in the 2024 class - Nation and Lenhardt signed in the early date and the staff was very intentional in their shift to 2024 on social media. That said, they are NOT done in the portal, and adding portal players is easier because they aren't counters when you talk about the 85 count until the fall. Which means, as it stands, Nebraska has 7 transfers and are currently at 92 scholarships in total. Subtract 7 from 92 and that's 85.

IF a HS or JUCO guy comes available that they want to try to sign in November they still could... Nebraska can by 85+3 (88) on signing day, Feb. 1. So they might strategically go after a few more guys, but I doubt it.

Because of the way these things are counted, they can go after a decent amount of transfers as well. Technically they are at 62 scholarship athletes still on campus, add 7 transfers that will enroll soon and that's 69 (nice)... Then add any number of early enrollers (maybe 5?) that would be 74 - this means they could presumably add 10 more transfers if they wanted to and still not be breaking NCAA rules so long as they are down to 85 by August.

SO - expect them to be ACTIVE in the portal. They won't add 10, but 5 is not out of the question.

With that in mind I can confirm that a number of transfers will be in town this weekend and, likely, next weekend, they need to commit somewhere by January 18th so urgency matters. Here's who I know will be on campus this weekend:

Micah Mazzccua (OG, Baylor)
Walter Rouse (OT, Stanford)
Billy Kemp (WR, Virginia)

Don't forget that Malik Hornsby will be announcing his destination on January 8th - Nebraska still in the running there as well.

Other transfers to keep an eye on in the near future:

Jack Roberts (TE, North Texas) - might get a visit, might not - has a bevvy of offers
Javontae Jean-Baptiste (DE, Ohio State) - if JJB sounds familiar it's because he was going to sign with Nebraska's class in 2018 but a snow storm delayed signing and he ended up going to Ohio State at the last second. Also - former teammate of Rahmir Johnson. There's some smoke here believe it or not.
Lorando Johnson (CB, Baylor)
Al Walcott (S, Baylor)

I would expect more names at WR to pop up in the coming days as well.

A bit more info on Mazzccua and Rouse...

Mazzccua will be deciding between Auburn, Nebraska and Florida on Sunday. Former teammate of Fleeks, he did retweet Fleeks' transfer tweet to Nebraska FWIW.

Rouse will be deciding next week some time between Iowa, Nebraska, and Oklahoma

I was just told that Nebraska might not be done in the 2023 class... news to me... but... watch the All-America game tomorrow. I'm not promising anything but there's a bit of a buzz going on around some things that I can't put my finger on. I don't think it's a 5-star kid or anything but as of now, I would be surprised if Nebraska doesn't add one or two more names in the 2023 class now.

Again, remember, we can add up to 3 with where numbers are at right now.

To keep you guessing into the day tomorrow

"a diamond in buckeye country to become a football star soon, a lion will eat crab in the end?" The last little part tripped me up, no clue what that soon crab end means. i was thinking he's talking about JJB.

I think this is how LSU fans felt when Coach O gave a press conference.

Malik Hornsby announced tomorrow... Both On3 and 247 have predictions in that he's going to Nebraska.

This one is interesting obviously, lots of QBs on the roster. I think the plan is ultimately for him to be a WR.
