2023 Recruiting Thread

Pleasant to Oregon

I know it's 2024, but damn ... we have 10 commits already and 8 are in the top 100. We've never started off this fast. Also, the state of Georgia is as loaded with talent for the 2024 class than I've seen in a decade. This will be the best class Smart has landed, and that's saying something.

How many of those 8 end up at Nebraska in 2026?

Asking for a friend.

This get should put us either in, or almost in, that range (20-25).

Put it this way, two more 4 star recruits put us at 8 total in the class. The lowest a team ranked with 8+ four star recruits last year was 21. And at this point if we do swing and get a five star we're chasing, that would instantly put us as a lock in the top 20. Right now with a few more four star kids I think we'll land right where I thought we would, somewhere around 17/18ish. IF we get amore than a couple more four stars, top 15 is totally realistic.

Michigan finished at #18, with 10 four stars. Pretty much what I predicted to happen when we were sitting at only 6 four star kids. Had we managed to pull in Nyck, it would have put us in the top 15.

And 2024 is already looking like it will be a strong class for us.

sounds good and all.. but you would think a team that has won the past two conference titles AND made the CFP.. that they would have been able to crack the top 10? I would have expected them to finish within the top 7, personally.

Certainly not ideal. I think success takes a second to pan out on the recruiting trail. Last year was seen as a fluke when it happened and this year was a shock that really wasn't realized until a couple months ago. Harbaugh flirting with the NFL also hurt. From what I've been seeing, 2024 Michigan is poised to have a top 5 class. After today we should already have 1/2 of the four star kids committed that we had in this class. And we have a 5 star QB lined up in Jayden Davis.

You also have to factor in the transfer portal now days, and it seems like Harbaugh really pushed transfer recruits harder this year. Combined I think it's a solid class, just not elite.

NIL has changed this as well and we're still behind. Everything we're offering is for kids who are on the team, we don't (unlike others) offer recruits anything for NIL, only offer potential once here. And when Florida is out there offering kids $13 million contracts, it changes things.

Well had ND managed to pull in Bowen and Keeley we'd be sitting top 5. Alot of what ifs out there. Admittedly, you did get two more 4 stars than I thought, so kudos to that. With that said, your avg recruit rank is outside the top 20.

Hoping the transfer portal gets we got help supplement this class. Also helps that we had a lot of players stick around for 2023, giving us a little more buffer than expected.

This class relied on a lot of lower-ranked 4 star kids outside the top 100. We didn't really get any top 100 players we were going after. Which I'm not sure is indicative of NIL or just missing on kids because of the NFL rumors (or both?)

But like I said before, it's really not all THAT different from our previous classes outside of those few misses. Our 2022 class ranked 9th but it included 3 top 100 kids and a 5 star. But we actually finished with fewer total 4 stars....it seems like the 2023 class had a lot of high end 3 star kids, and low end 4 star kids, all on the border depending what site you were looking at. Rivals had us with 11 four star kids, I think 247 had us with 10, and On3 had us with 8. But again, we also had far more transfer prospects than ever before. So I think that probably balances it out a bit more than it shows.

But I'm also really excited about 2024 because it seems like the on field success is finally paying off with that class.

Yeah, it's not all that different, but still slightly worse than what everyone is used too. The one good thing that this class will have time to do is develop because a lot of them won't be asked to play right away with everyone you have coming back. Since they aren't as highly rated, that could be of benefit down the road. The 24 class is the one that you'll need to load up on because, I think you'll lose a lot off the 23 team, including a lot of your star players(assuming they go pro).

this was from yesterday.. think that seals up the class..only remaining Target is Duce Robinson.. and I think that's a long shot..
