2024 College Football TV Ratings

yeah man but it was on a thursday and friday night.. school is back in session.. I missed a majority of the first half Thursday due to my daughters bball game. People work.. it's not fair to compare it to NYD or NYE because majority of people have those days off.

I agree the comparison isn't fair. But if this is what it's going to be moving forward the QF's are going to outdraw the Semi's regularly. The powers that be have to try and get these games to NYD.

What IF either Army or Navy make the playoff?

That's a good point, while unlikely, it's not at 0%. I heard it floated around that moving Army/Navy to week 0 might make sense and be a cool idea. Then the CFP can move up a week.

so it didn't do as good as when they were played on NYD or whatever.. However that is still terrific for those nights. Think this past season is an anomaly for the amount of byes we had. Saw the new schedule.. Texas just gets two instead of 3

Yeah, it's good for those nights, but it's overall disappointing given the stakes and teams.

Might not be a bad idea. What better way to kick off the CFB season than Army/Navy? There isn't one. Sure beats the hell out of some of the other neutral site games.

Doesn't NASCAR have their version of the Super Bowl (Daytona) at the beginning of their year?

These aren't all that great TBH. If ESPN wants to maximize ratings the Semis need to be on NYD.

Wonder how much better they would be if they weren't just on ESPN as well.

Oh I'm sure a lot better. Simulcasting on ABC would make sense, but I have no clue what programming they have on Thursday and Friday nights.

This is not good. They waited too long. Has to be closer to Jan 1. There was very little marketing buzz, and had to compete
NFL, Inauguration, and MLK Day.

It's certainly not bad either, especially for a game shown on ESPN. Gotta imagine that is 30+ on ABC
No, if it was 30+ on ABC, it would have been on ABC. It's just that they waited way too long ... CFB has been over for weeks for most casual fans.

This makes no sense, but starting with the new contract in 2026 it will be on ABC. I say that makes no sense because ABC/ESPN are owned by Disney, so they should be able to move it to ABC if they want to.

Yeah, that's a pretty terrible number if we're being honest.

Don't blame the teams. In fact, if was UGA v. TCU it would have been way worse. You can't wait until 20 days after NYD, when MFL is in their Conf semis and expect college fans to be excited. I am a huge CFB fan and I hardly heard anything about on normal media.

I thought ESPN bought exclusive rights to all the CFP games? Yes I know they are owned by the same company but I'm pretty sure I remember reading that they had to be shown on ESPN until 2026
