2024 Recruiting Thread

I feel good about Houston for sure, especially since he's already set his announcement date and has finished his visits. We'll see with Stewart but you have to feel good about him being a DMV kid. We've had some nice wins out of there. If we had the choice of both of them or one of them + Bolden, I'm definitely taking the latter.

Ive never expected Bolden to land here, seems like another Caleb Downs. We heard so much about how good of a chance we had for him but you always had the feel that we weren't pulling him out of the south.

The Downs stuff always seemed like a "if I were going to leave the south it'd be OSU but I'm not leaving the south". Bolden's seems different but again, I'm not confident we come away with him. He would likely push for immediate playing time though, that's for sure.

Everyone is going to take loses. NIL world had changed things. Everyone now has a “bag budget”. At anytime someone can blow that budget on single player. Smart schools won’t do that, but occasionally a moron will show up
Don't care, will splurge on a slingshot for Baker

Yea I think CB is looking pretty good with the 2 higher rated guys we brought in last year and the West + Scott this year.

Safety is a ? though after this year. Might have to hit the transfer portal hard again if we don't end up with Downs.

We thankfully still have Styles, Kye Stokes, Kourt Williams, Malik Hartford, Cedric Hawkins, Jayden Bonsu, and the kid in the 2024 class, though they're all largely unproven. We'll see how things go this season and who emerges.

I'm big on Styles, think he will be pretty good

I forgot Hartford was a top 100 guy too.

Maybe it's not as bad as I was thinking.

IDK what to make of guys like Stokes, Hawkins & Bonsu until they actually hit the field though. I know recruiting rankings aren't always the tell all, but they were the #26 (Stokes) #28 (Hawkins) & #24 (Bonsu) ranked Safeties in their classes. Tend to be more bullish on those types of guys until the actually show something in game.

I think Bolden eventually stays home. He's taking his visits and saying all the right things after the visits, but he's been a UGA lean for a long, long time.

Styles has the chance to be very special, and Hartford also could be an immediate contributor. I wouldn't be shocked if we dipped back into the portal for 1 or 2 safeties after this season, as well. I also wonder if a strong senior year from Koy Beasley could get us back involved and flip him. He's a top 10 safety in this class but got hurt during track earlier this year and hasn't done much.

Yeah yeah, we know, just let us enjoy this (very likely) hopeless optimism while we can.

Seems like we are going to need at least 1 from the portal for depth purposes. McClain the guy we have in this class already I think is a nice prospect, but I would not want him being thrown into the fire as a freshman. Think he's the type who will be a good player after like 2 years in the program.

They are gonna need 1 more in this class as well. No clue who it would be if we don't end up with Bolden. Probably gonna have to roll with a lower rated guy they think can develop after a couple years.

You guys also have 3 top 15 safeties committed in this class already, WTF

Well here's the thing, all of those guys I mentioned will be back in 2024 unless they transfer (which is obviously possible, if not likely). The depth is there, we just need the leaders to step up and take over. I really like Ja'Had Carter from Cuse that's coming in but he's like 24 already, so we're going to need guys to replace him and Ransom.

Yea I really like Carter too, he was a great portal pickup, He's gone gone after this year though lol.

Too many people think our secondary was bad last year because "they just suck" which is not true. Everyone was hurt off and on all year so they rarely if ever had the same unit on the field from game to game, it's hard to build consistency in the secondary when guys are constantly having to play out of position because everyone else is hurt. If they avoid the injury bug I suspect the secondary will be pretty good with the added transfers and the 2 higher rated incoming frosh CBs.

According to insiders, Looks like Lightfoot tried to start a NIL bidding war and Ohio State wouldn't pay to play....so Miami it is. I guess enjoy the up the front money and 3-4 disappointing years of football at Da U.

Fong really REALLY confident about Houston to tosu..and even though he has a ball to Stewart to land at tosu as well, he reiterated to watch out for South Carolina a few times right now on the live youtube show

Yea South Carolina is definitely our biggest competition for Stewart.

I think we've figured out the NIL game mostly now after a rough start. But it also seems like we aren't going to play the bidding war game though. Biggest worry is South Carolina comes in and starts one with Stewart like Miami did with Lightfoot.
