2025 Recruiting Thread

Im getting leary of recruiting ranking honestly. I'm as excited about this class as any. A couple years ago OU got the #1 QB Arnold and #1 RB Tatum and neither have done a thing. Just give me some dudes and not pre madonnas.
It's always been kinda bullshit. It's really just about chances of success. The chance a #1 prospect turns into an All American is just many times greater than the chances of a 3 star doing it. I remember when Michigan got Shae Patterson via a transfer and I thought that was going to finally be our moment. #1 QB in the class? Here we go! lol I'm kinda leary of Bryce Underwood for the same reason. The amount of hype surrounding him seems like there's simply no way he doesn't disappoint next year on some level

Shea Patterson y'all shoulda seen the writing on the wall, I think after his 2nd year at Ole Miss it was clear he was going to be not a great but just ok college QB, by the time he transferred to Michigan his hype was all still just coasting off his recruiting ranking.

Appartnley David Sanders got paid more than Underwood. Tennessee paid more for a OT recruit who probably won't even start year 1 (and who knows how good he will be after that anyways) than they coulda probably got 2 maybe 3 immediate starting caliber OL in the portal for.

This is getting insane. That kind of money for an OT is wild as hell.

LOL did you hear about his last minute visit to OSU? He was coming to see if he could get OSU to offer more NIL to put the pressure on Tennessee to increase theirs. OSU found out about what he was doing and cut their NIL offer way, way down from what it originally was. Perfect middle finger to a total douchebag kid.

Sanders was a kid UGA simply cut off contact with. First, I get it ... the best OL in a class should demand top dollar if idiots are going to pay top dollar to unproven HS recruits. But, he never went to a school where he was shaking hands with his right hand and the left hand out asking for money.

Let's see how he does with the grind when he isn't playing.

A lot is coming out about Beck and how the NIL affected him and his relationship wit the team this year. It's ugly, even if only 50% is true.

Things don't change much, now do they? And for those who think the transfer portal is the magic, the core team and the culture is built off the high school recruits who really want to go to that school. It still matters.
100% agree - it use to be a 10 out of 10 importance, now I’d say it’s a 9 out of 10

Recruit HS well and build your core talent and culture. Supplement your cracks with the portal, but only people who show they will fit into the culture.

That works if that 9 represents a top 10 HS recruiting class in multiple years. If teams can’t recruit like that, they’ll need more than 10% from the portal to even come close to catching up to those that get top 10 classes on a regular basis.

True dat - yep spot on

Totally ... the main thing you said is that you have to do it year in and year out. Especially now that you have the portal taking away people not getting PT who aren't going to hang around 4 years to start.
