Downs going to WVU would be the coup of the century, and honestly I'd not be mad about it

I've seen people saying Bama needs to move on from Milroe, which is asinine IMO. He finished in the top 10 in Y/A and passer efficiency while being a very good running QB. Bama's pass protection wasn't that great and they had snapping issues, and even his WR unit wasn't that great. He didn't play great against Michigan, but his receivers couldn't get anything going and Michigan was getting in his face most of the game (6 sacks and various pressures). Sometimes even the best QBs are going to have rough games against elite defenses

I mean, he doesn’t exactly fit what we’ve seen KD’s offenses do so.. it may not be that far fetched TBH.
He’s a heck of an athlete but passing isn’t his strong suit.

Yea he's going to UGA. Woulda been nice to have him as I think we still need another safety but we will be ok. Glad we aren't in the business of hiring a coach just to get 1 player.

Unfortunately if I were to guess, I'd say it's like 80/20 UGA, but we were damn near in a dead heat to get him the first time around. I'm wondering if KJ Bolden backs out in the spring if Downs ends up there though. I believe they're both the same type of safety and Downs has 2 more years before he can go pro.

i don't think Bolden expects to be a day 1 starter, but he expects to play.. think they can manage it

Not a day 1 starter per se, but waiting until his junior year to be a starter is a LOT to ask of a stud safety, especially since he saw what Downs did as a true freshman at Bama.

LOL ... no, we didn't hire a coach to get Downs. In case you aren't following it:

- Muschamp wanted to step away and retire. His son is at UGA, his other son will be a freshman QB at Vandy. Champ wanted to be able to go to his games on Saturday. We got him to agree to stay on as an analyst with reduced hours, and he can recruit on-campus. So, we needed a secondary coach. T-Rob and Champ go way back ... he was DC at USCjr under Champ and I believe he was at UF with him when he was HC at UF.

- T-Rob is one of the best secondary coaches in the country. That's why he was at Bama. They are about to have two of their secondary go in the first round. Anyone who says he isn't a top assistant doesn't know ball. He also has 5 years as a DC in the SEC.

- T-Rob is one of the best recruiters in the country. If you know anything about UGA, it's that they hire recruiters. He's from South Florida. If you know anything about recruiting, you know having a SFla connection is important.

- Downs is just a bonus.

You'll have to find another reason to rationalize losing Downs, assuming he ends up at UGA.

This .... and UGA rotates defensive players more than any team in the country. He'll get real minutes.
