23-24 Portal boyz

Boo fucking hoo Bama was negative recruiting Larry Johnson's age and saying he was gonna retire like crazy to Eddrick Houston trying to get him to flip and then Saban retires like a month later.

Think that is the only bullshit they pulled with kids? Knowing Saban and his past he was probably telling them all he wasn't going anywhere until the day he did
Yeah, Bama isn't going to get a lot of sympathy from anyone. You had the best run of all time. It's going to be some rough sledding moving to the next coach. No one is going to feel sorry for you guys.

Do you want to see Saban's recruiting numbers?

Starting in 2008 per Rivals - 1, 1, 5, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1, 7, 2, 3, 1, 2, 1, 3

You haven't taken the field without the best talent in 16 years. And I am fine with that. Saban was the GOAT recruiter. The Process was unreal and a horrifying thing if you were on the other side of it. So none of us who were bludgeoned by it will be sympathetic to your plight as the worm turns.

Lol so fuck the kids over and give them no options by making them wait until spring bc a coach lies to them and doesn't leave until after the first portal?

No thanks
Honestly what else was Saban suppose to do? We were in the playoff. So our season ended later than anyone but Michigan and Washington. He did IMO the respectful thing and waited until after the NCG.

I'm pretty sure most of if not all the years they didn't get 1 was simply bc they didn't have the room. Curious to see how many of those non #1 years they were still #1 in avg ranking/recruit

udub roster was already fucked.. which is why i don't think DeBoer was a good hire
You can question his recruiting and the future, but next years' roster wasn't (necessarily) fucked. The big name skills guys were out, but would have had a veteran O-line, some key defensive pieces could have returned. Would have been questions, but not a complete tear down like it is now.

Plenty of coaches/players have announced they were retiring before a season was over. Hell, didn't Tom Osborne do it when they were on a run for a natty his last year?

Our biggest problem right now is our NIL isn’t organized at All. Saban was getting all these kids at a discount because of who he is and how he put players in the NFL…we don’t get that discount anymore so our collective needs to get organized

Only team with any talent people care enough to bribe into the portal
Too bad your legendary program hasn't focused more on how to legally bribe those players now that it's a thing everyone can do.

He don’t want no fucking Coach K “all about me retiring tour”. Dude worked relentlessly until he told his players in the meeting he was done….literally

Yeah... all this time to figure out NIL deals like other programs have... It's all of the sudden a real problem, huh?

It’s an obvious fumble by Byrne and our boosters. We will pay for it this offseason but We will get it figured out.

Twitter is awash with tweets like this ... like I said, no one is going to have an iota of sympathy for that fanbase. I sure hope when Smart retires we are hated equally ... that would mean about 10 more years of awesome football:

Not if you assume everyone who could have not entered the portal wouldn't have... But okay, you said it so it must be true.

There was no way to transition from Saban to <next name here>without this at some level.

I do think Lanning would have made it easier only because he runs The Process as a Saban/Smart disciple. But that's about it.

Bama ain’t going anywhere. We are a blue blood program and had 1 bad stretch in our entire history(97-07) because we got put on probation back to back.

Its not gonna be as dominant like it was under Saban but we will still be very much in the mix every year and make the playoffs more times than not.

Or he knew that saying he was done could have effected the early signing period so he waited and it has now backfired

Notice the 5 is surrounded by 4 no. 1 classes and the 7 preceded by two no. 1 classes, followed by a 2 and 3.

The 7 was Smart's first full year of recruiting at UGA when we had the no. 1 class that was the highest rated all-time at the time.

Note that - 7, 2, 3, 1, 2, 1, 3 - is what happened after Smart left and went to UGA. Him leaving Bama hurt them, and obviously helped UGA.

Still anyone else in the country would kill for - 7, 2, 3, 1, 2, 1, 3

IMO we still got the best Coach in the SEC not named Kirby and short of bringing Kirby Smart back is the best hire we could have possibly made.

I don't think anyone disagrees. But you will start to understand how spoiled your fanbase has been. I am going to post this over and over:

Starting in 2008 per Rivals - 1, 1, 5, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1, 7, 2, 3, 1, 2, 1, 3

Without that, you will be just part of the top-tier pack. And that's great and will get you to the CFP. But the mystique that was Bama is gone with Saban. The minute your coach does this - 9, 7, 3, 9 - he's gone.
