GAME #6 Ohio State(-3) @ #9 Notre Dame - 7:30 ET | NBC

Happy for the win, but my reaction after the game is I'm not sure either team is actually any good.

that Irish offensive line and running game is for real, it will them allow to compete in any game in which they play. they got cute/stupid at the end, otherwise they'd have won.

Counterpoint - if we convert those earlier 4th and 1s from the goal line and the 11, we win handily.

But the game just kinda confirmed what I already suspected about Ohio St: pretty stout defense, not great offense.

They avoided giving up those back breaking bad long TDs like they did against Michigan and UGA. I’ll give them that.

But unless they get some pass rush going at some point that’s going to happen again eventually.

Also we STILL struggle to pick up 3rd/4th and short. This has been a major problem the last few years.
The DLine is the biggest concern bc they haven't created pressure most of the season. 3rd and short I hope come in time once they get settled in on the offense but we will see. Those will be tough against Penn St and scUM defenses

"handily"? ehhhhh i dunno about that. but yeah, probably would've won with maybe a little more breathing room.

When they blitz it never seems to really work either, just leaves a very vulnerable secondary on a island.

2nd down play calling is a big problem as well.

It's almost always a run on 2nd down (especially if it's 2nd and longer) and teams have definitely caught onto this.

Thankfully we were able to come trough on 3rd downs a good amount against ND.

Offensive line is still shaky. They kept McCord mostly clean, but the run blocking was bad in this game.

Take away Henderson's 1 long run and the RBs were averaging 2.8 YPC

ND left some points on the board as well. Hartman not wanting to man up and not getting what shoulda easily been a 1st down on that 4th down scramble was a huge play in the game.

I guess its revisionist thinking on my part. Considering how the game was playing out, 14 additional points from those possessions would have been massive. "Handily" or "comfortably", the Buckeyes should have had a 2-score lead.

But IIWII, ND's defense stepped up in those situations. I gotta give credit where its due.

Yeah, but ND was also stopped on two 4th and inches, and missed a FG. You don't know how the game would have played out, but things go differently if ND converts those. It was a pretty even game the whole way around IMO. Both teams missed some opportunities.

I would like to see what Michigan looks like vs a team with a pulse, but that doesn't even begin to happen till mid november.
Michigan just beat a previously undefeated B10 team. Ohio State barely put up 17 on a team that's not even in a major conference.
