A Monday Thread...in honor of National Simplicity Day

Of course not.

Only you know the financial code.

We're all playing checkers, while you're playing 4d chess.
Only me? Multiple people in this thread think leasing car is dumb. Plenty of people know what's up.

All sorts of financial advisor will give similar advice, many are even more conservative than I am.

But you be you.

I get the philosophy

With rates as is, if I have 40k cash, Im investing it because return should be > low interest in today's market
If you believe we are heading into an inflationary period almost any debt makes sense for investments. I'm at the age where preservation of capital is the prime interest.

Well I'm not too worried about an aging packer fan

I have 15 year mortgage, well now 14, some advise against that and suggest investing extra payment

Too me not having a mortgage is one less expense I need worry about in retirement, and therefore less savings needed. Im sure my plan could be better, but it's what I feel comfortable doing

My plan is to go to 30/hours week at 55 and retire fully at 60, no mortgage factors into that plan.

I retired at 60 due to health issues. Refied the house. Started cashing out 401s and Roth account. Cashed out of my precious metals over past year. But I am just short of 70. Age and risk tolerance makes a huge difference.

nah, you’re crushing it.

Even called me a liar when outlined my payments and total cost.

Which, is sort of why I laugh every time you pop in thinking youre the smartest person in the world.

No, leasing isn’t for everyone. Neither is buying. I didn’t want to buy when I was looking five years ago, so it made the most sense to have small payments on a car. The deal worked out just as I planned during the lease and when I came to buy, it worked even better than I planned when I had them do a lease buyout of the car.

I see both sides of this... IMHO you do what you feel is right for you and don't let anyone tell you otherwise... People find themselves in different situations and have to act accordingly

You should have bought a car from your Dad. Fish has a great gig selling all of his old crap to his kids

Whatever helps you sleep in your revisionist world

@Fish also ran with business with his dad and mn kid named sully. From what I know he didn't make good decisions with business partners

I don't disagree, but consider the source.

About as well as you thinking you’re the smartest guy in the world with money I guess?
Boys...boys! We all need some help with the financials. No one can possible know everything. That's why I sleep soundly at night knowing that @ChiSoxFan is in control of my portfolio. If you want peace of mind like me give him a call. You won't regret it!

I've never claimed that. Don't think I am in the slightest.

Between the two of us, you're the only one who considers yourself an expert in every situation on everything.

I get it, you wanted a sweet new dodge.

Why did you buy the Tucson instead of leasing?

I don’t consider myself an expert on alcohol or lawn bowling.

Not going to entertain your question, as you’ll proclaim some holier than thou response about how you wouldn’t have made the decision I did or you’ll call me a liar when I tell you the specific facts of what I paid. Like, when you were my age you were driving and paying for an HHR, bro. Let’s pump the brakes on thinking you’re fucking Mario Andretti, Elon Musk and Warren Buffets lovechild.
