ACC Basketball

obviously not a Syracuse fan, but their current NET ranking is what I hate about the system.

they are currently ranked #75 on NET. their worst loss is against #55 Virginia, while their two best wins are against #51 Oregon and #52 Pitt. they are being penalized for having relatively close games against low major competition. the assumption is that if you beat a couple of low majors by single digits, then you eventually going to slip up against bad competition and will be exposed against good competition. that assumption is correct 99% of the time. but so far that isn't the case with Syracuse, but they are still being punished for it.

It is crazy to see the difference between what their NET is and what their RPI is(19). They obviously aren't a top 25 team, but also, on resume, aren't the 75th best team either. They've also been hurt by getting absolutely destroyed in all their losses. The results based metrics really like this Cuse team, the predictive ones, not so much. I'd also worry about UVA the way they are playing.

After this weekend, I think Wake will finish top 3 in the league.

Wake Forest in 2016 had a really OOC season. they beat UCLA, Indiana, Arkansas and Ben Simmons' LSU. all four of those squads had went to the NCAAT in 2015. also gave a good Xavier team ALL they could handle in Winston. they had a bad slip up against a bad Richmond team, but outside of that no bad losses. Kenpom HATED the Deacs going into ACC play because they didn't blow any of the cupcakes out. Deacs then proceeded to go 2-16 in ACC play + out of their four big OOC wins, only Indiana went to the NCAAT. I haven't really doubted kenpom since then.

this could be the case for Syracuse (and it probably is), but at this point, the official NCAA rating system should be higher on them based off their resume.

WF at NC State tonight...sneaky important game

Deacs loss to Pack on Tuesday was pretty bad. 10 point halftime lead and they blew it. T on Sallis was bad officiating, but games aren't won or loss on one bad call. and considering how bad the ACC is, if you have an opportunity to get a Q1/Q2 win, you have to seal the deal. The Deacs didn't b/c it's a school of losers.

some good news tho:

Deacs have had little depth all year. been way too reliant on Sallis, Hildreth + Miller at the guard spots. Monsanto can give you 12-14 points a night when healthy. no idea about Ituka. He's pretty injury plagued since he arrived to Wake.

Wake out here trying to end the Kenny Payne era and I'm here for it.

Louisville went zone in the second half despite Wake having BOTH Monsanto and Parker Friedrichsen on the floor, lmao. just horrible coaching. Deacs end the game shooting 18/35 from 3

he's a game changer for Wake. if he was cleared on Tuesday, they probably would have beaten those Raleigh queers

watched that shit live on CW.

that dude played in his first college basketball game in 2018...

what a loser, tbh. its comical that he received a sixth year, he redshirted due to the old transfer rule when COVID forced the NCAA to cancel the tournament.

I like you guys to beat UNC Monday night. Think it's a good matchup for you.

well, this didn't happen.

Wake might be in a lil bit of bubble trouble again. have to win games on the road.

Yeah, they're right around the cut line right now. Big game against Pitt next time out. Get that and they'll probably be on the right side of the bubble.

There's that fucking UVa D.
