ACC on life support, 7 members getting ready to pull the plug

Guys, listen: NOBODY wants Miami.
Lies Liar GIF

They are not wanting to take Ore and UW, both of whom would bring way more than UVa.

I agree they play school, but not at the cost of millions per team.

Plus, they have been clear they don't want to kill the PAC, although they basically already did. Do they want to kill the ACC?
Oregon is nowhere near the level of institution UVA is.

They’d gladly kill the ACC for UNC, UVA and Georgia Tech. Not sure ND ever will put itself so close to so many in conference rivals.

i wouldn't mind UVA in the SEC..beautiful campus

And we very much disagree on teams that are worth bringing in. Sure it’s about eyeballs but given Vat Tech and NCst decent history and in new states I think they are very good adds. Given the choice I don’t see UNC picking the SEC. Truthfully I can see the SEC adding:
FSU
Clemson
VaTech
NCSt

BIG adding:
UNC
UVA
Miami
Georgia Tech
The SEC is not taking VaTech and NCSU.

Quick CFB economics:
- You have to be able to generate $100+ million to get into the B1G or the SEC. That's really hard to do.
- Basketball doesn't matter.
- What matters is viewership, especially 4 million plus games; CFP involvement (this will be very big as a share or more would be very valuable)
- The state you are in is not very valuable. Proof - getting LA, the second largest market in the US was only worth $16 million per year to the B1G. It's just not as relevant when the numbers are so large.

TV Viewership:

RankSchool and Avg AttendanceConfP5/G5
10Clemson — 2.59MACCP5
15Florida State — 2.03MACCP5
43NC State — 881KACCP5
46North Carolina — 849KACCP5
49Georgia Tech — 837KACCP5
59Miami FL— 608KACCP5
76Virginia Tech — 264KACCP5
79Virginia — 237KACCP5
91Duke — 115.7KACCP5

As you can see Clemson and FSU have decent viewership, but everyone else sucks. You mention VaTech, but they are 76th and 79th, worse than 8 G5 schools. Worse than 8 G5 schools - the SEC and the B1G won't have anything to do with those teams.

Well, what about CFP? Clemson and FSU obviously have NCs recently. Miami has been a while. None of the others have hardly sniffed what would be a 12 team CFP.

None are teams that get people excited, so they won't help by playing better teams.

Miami and UNC are marginal because they would have been in at least one 12 team CFP, but that's nothing to rely on.

The SEC is not giving teams full shares to teams who average less viewers than 8 G5 teams, and average users in the 250K range.

UNC, UVa, and GT? Not a chance. They don't want to lose money. Over the last 12 years, UVa and UNC each would have received a single CFP share in a 12 team CFP. TV numbers are horrible.

No TV, no CFP chances, no invite.

They already tried to get them ten years ago.

Great school and the Atlanta market.

It’s not all football with the BIG. Never has been.

If they tried to poach from the SEC, it’d be Vandy they’d go after.

10 years ago in CFB was a totally different market when regions and states mattered. They don't any more. What matters is eyeballs and CFP shares. They don't provide any of that. They would lose in excess of $150 million every year inviting those teams into the B1G.

The B1G isn't going to expand for the sake of expanding. This would be expanding for the sake of expanding.

Because the market theory of CFB economics the Atlanta market isn't nearly as relevant in 2023 and going forward.

It's never just about football. It's about money. The B1G does require AAC membership, but that doesn't replace the need to earn their $100 million+ share. None of those three come close. I mean, it's not even a close call on UVa.

Vandy would laugh at them. I'm a Vandy grad. Vandy is not going anywhere.

Regions and states don’t matter?

This is what has pushed the BIG to expand for the last 30 years. A larger footprint.

Will be the same when they expand again. Whenever that happens to be.

I have no idea what Rutgers “earns” but I’m assuming it’s less than the three schools I assume would top their wish list.
