Another day, another pitbull mauling

White trash household just moved in down the street and of course had to get a pit pup, (you know they're closely associated). Thinking of doing all the neighborhood families and young children on the street a solid.
they are an affordable breed and very readily available at most shelters

if trained properly, pitbulls are sweet as any other breed.

the thing is it is not a breed for beginners. If you have no experience with dogs, a pit is not where you start.

I'm all for euthanizing this breed. Clearly they serve no purpose except mauling and maiming humans.

I'm typically against regulation of most things, but I lean towards regulation of aggressive dog breeds. Pitbulls, Rottweilers, Dobermans, German Shepherds, etc. can be the best of companions if trained properly but also can be human killers if trained to be guard dogs or are not properly trained. I think background checks on the humans who wish to own an aggressive dog breed is appropriate and ownership should be prohibited for new dog owners or humans with a history of violent behavior to own one.

There should also be required regular behavioral inspections of the aggressive breed and if a dog fails inspection the owners lose the dog and are no longer allowed to own an aggressive breed. Depending on the level of aggressiveness, the dog either gets put down or rehabilitated under new ownership.

...Just my two pennies on the topic...

Agreed. The statistics don't lie, pitbulls maim far more than other breeds. But the point is that other breeds maim people too. What's the magic number, in your mind, where we arbitrarily decide "that's too much, euthanize the breed"?

Also, in the cases where the maiming was the result of moronic dog OWNERS, are we euthanizing them too? I'm talking about owners who don't properly fence/leash/restrain their dogs, owners who raise the dogs purely for attack/sport purposes, etc? Because if you look at the statistics on dogsbite.com, you'll find that an overwhelming amount of fatal dog attacks were the result of a human being a retard.
I think you should have to take a test of your dog training knowledge before adopting a dog, especially a pitbull.

like a qualification check

Pitbull hate is just a case study in confirmation bias. And people who talk like you are mouth breathing, ignorant assholes.

Not ignorant, just cautious. I've read enough to know I don't want them around.

problem is, they exist and there is nothing we can do about it.

do you think we should just euthanize any pitbulls that exist in the world or should they just roam free?

yes. i think they should be eradicated off the face of the Earth, or at least within the borders of this country. absolutely.

I have no qualms with chemically castrating such trash and throwing them in prison for a long, long time, if not the rest of their pathetic lives.

This didn't age well for the Father.

pretty cool that someone dug through his tweets so they could play "gotcha" when this guy is going through such a hard time.

real quality people out there.

Ah, I see the pit bull rage has made it here.

Confirmation bias is EXACTLY what it is. I’ve known proper and improper pit bull owners, and I’ve seen the difference.

I’ve known well raised pit bulls that are the sweetest babies their entire life. Think I’m going to get behind euthanizing them too?

I’ve often said I would get behind some kind of approval and oversight of the breed so complete morons or the uninitiated dog owner cannot get one, if that were feasible. But, it’s not.

These stories are tragic, but while I cannot say I have intimate experience with how the dogs in each case are handled I’ve seen enough to know they didn’t do something right with them.

They are not simple dogs to take in and own.

The thing is still a puppy and very cute but these morons are letting it roam around the front yard without a leash. I've asked them twice to leash it, the township has ordinances. Teaching this dog bad habits, not a good idea with kids around.

And sometimes that’s a big part of the problem. I just would not take a pit from a shelter. You don’t know what’s already been implanted as bad training. Have to take them as a just weened pup or not at all.
