Anyone remember the old TG&Y stores

I had a '57 Chevy Bel Aire, not a convertible...nor a hardtop which are rare, but a 2-door "post" car.

I painted it Candy Apple Red with pearl white roof. A true Candy Apple Red paint job is a very tedious process....unlike a normal paint job.

I wish I still had that car....

This is the last model kit I bought. Paid $5.
Still have it. Also a Tom "Mongoose" McEwen kit. Can't find an image.

@CorpRebel mentioned Woolworths. Bought my 1st 45 at F.W. of the Beatles. Jan. or Feb. '64 or early '64. Paid a dollar for it.

there was a Grant's store in LC back then. I'll have to look them up to see how big of a chain they were.

But it closed down about a year later when that whole chain went outta business.

But Sears was my mom's mainstay store. From clothes to Kenmore appliances to Goodyear tires and tuneups for the car. Her Sears credit card got quite the workout! :heh:

We had everything Kenmore, and Die Hard batteries, and all Sears Craftsman tools.
 
Had one of these in OKC.
Didn't even know it was even a chain until years later.
It's been gone a while now.

They were a tire shop or an auto parts store?

We have Firestone’s down here but they are only tire shops. Not sure if it’s different elsewhere.

Since I left SoCal in '89, it's been an "out of sight, out of mind" type of thing, so it sounded familiar but wasn't sure. Being old is my excuse for forgetting... :rolleyes2:

We had one on Ryan St. in Lake Charles. It was there for a long time, but as you say, they gone. It ended up being our go to store. It was there long before K-Mart came to town. The few big ticket items, you went to Sears Roebuck.

There were a few of those around when I was a kid. Always wondered how the hell they came up with that name. But being a kid never bothered to try to find out. There wasn't any in LC that I remember, but had 2 or 3 up here where I'm living now.
Again, long gone.
