Zodys sounds familiar.. Was that a big chain in SoCal?
I built at least a dozen 1957 Chevy Bel Aire convertibles. Painted every one Candy Apple Red.
I had a '57 Chevy Bel Aire, not a convertible...nor a hardtop which are rare, but a 2-door "post" car.
I painted it Candy Apple Red with pearl white roof. A true Candy Apple Red paint job is a very tedious process....unlike a normal paint job.
I wish I still had that car....
We had everything Kenmore, and Die Hard batteries, and all Sears Craftsman tools.I was a Navy brat and moved from Norfolk, VA to Maryland and then out to SoCal in '66 (when things weren't quite so politically stooopid) and then I moved out here to the northeast in '89 and there was still a Woolworths store open in town. But it closed down about a year later when that whole chain went outta business.
But Sears was my mom's mainstay store. From clothes to Kenmore appliances to Goodyear tires and tuneups for the car. Her Sears credit card got quite the workout!![]()

Ah yes model glue. that explains so much about youUsed to push a 3 h.p. Briggs & Stratton powered lawn mower with 47 cents worth of gas in an old gallon milk jug with a broken branch as the stopper...a Molotov cocktail more or less...and went around the neighborhood cutting lawns for $3.00 to $5.00.
Take my money to TG&Y and buy car and truck models and model glue, paint and other supplies needed to make the model.
Was a good week when I had made enough to get two models!

Since I left SoCal in '89, it's been an "out of sight, out of mind" type of thing, so it sounded familiar but wasn't sure. Being old is my excuse for forgetting...Yeah, it was decent size. I think at one point they had 44 stores.

Sounds like what a Pep Boys would be like here.Yeah, sorry. They did auto parts, tires, oil changes, tune ups, had lots of stuff.
I remember the old John A. Brown Department Store, Downtown OKC
Huge department store.

We had one on Ryan St. in Lake Charles. It was there for a long time, but as you say, they gone. It ended up being our go to store. It was there long before K-Mart came to town. The few big ticket items, you went to Sears Roebuck.Had one of these in OKC.
Didn't even know it was even a chain until years later.
It's been gone a while now.

There were a few of those around when I was a kid. Always wondered how the hell they came up with that name. But being a kid never bothered to try to find out. There wasn't any in LC that I remember, but had 2 or 3 up here where I'm living now.Oklahoma Tire and Service Company
