Arizona State pulling scholarship offers

Unless you live here, a lot of people don't understand just how strong, tight and influential that group can be. Hell, there are a lot of people that DO live here that still don't understand it. The group will also tell a college coach which players they really should stay away from. That falls on deaf ears sometimes but they still let 'em know.

And the Texas High School Football Coaches Assn is multi generational. Ex: Graham Harrell's grandad was one of the leaders of it back in the day.
They are losing it's grip however.. Seems that the coaches on the 7 on 7 teams throughout the state are getting much more juice when it comes to steering their players whichever way helps them.. Also trainers are getting in on the action as well.

I saw Tony Gonzalez play BOTH Football and Basketball in person @ Cal!
He was good on the court, I remember watching him during the NCAA tournament being a key piece around the bucket

Hell yeah they are. Look how many of their players are going off to the IMG type places of the world. Especially in hoops.

Hoops has always been like that since the shoe wars exploded in the late 80's and throughout the 90's. Steering the top prospects to a college that had an endorsement deal with them, promising to take even better care of them when they hit the league. It's an AAU thing now.

As far as football.. I know TXHSFB hates IMG, but for whatever reasons they have continued to schedule them.. I know Gorman (Las Vegas) played in the state and just two weeks ago IMG beat Duncanville. They must be paying the schools they play some good money

Arizona States big issue was not being more subtle about this. Most programs will convince commits to decommit but ASU just straight up told kids they don’t have an offer anymore. This will be used to negatively recruit against ASU, Herm needs to learn how to play the game

Yeah, he needs to keep winning so his staff can spin this on the trail, but if he has a rough season.. This will comeback to haunt him. It happens but damn, kids don't come out and word it that way.. Hell Herman had a WR commit from OK last cycle.. he and the staff just dropped all communication to the point that the kid decommitted.. I'm sure Malcolm Kelly brought that up over and over on the trail while recruiting for TCU

Herm realizes they need some help on the lines and fast. They have a good young QB in Daniels and some talent at WR and DB. Those lowly ranked 3 stars were unlikely to provide them a boost for 2021 so Herm decided to go to the transfer portal. It's probably a smart decision but they need to be more subtle about it.

watch those players actually amount to something by the 23/24 seasons lol

It could happen. I haven't watched their tapes so I don't know what kind of potential they may have.

Me thinks he is going to have to get his assistants to do it. Hard for a leopard to change his spots.

Herm comes from the pro game. Just walk in and cut players cold. That's the normal modus operendi. Don't have to worry about the negative recruiting part in the pros because you get your place in the draft order anyways.

His assistants need to learn to how to "do the dirty work" and "play the game."

lowly ranked 3*?
some of the best players have been 3* Mariota, AJ Hawk, D’Brickashaw Ferguson, Osweiler, Baker Mayfield

There are of course exceptions to the rule. However, you don't usually expect lower ranked 3 stars (3 stars have a wide range) to make an immediate contribution at the P5 level.

Shit man for Texas the best OL they have had over the past 5 years have been 3 stars.. Connor Williams and Sam Cosmi.. who both started games as true Freshmen.

They have had a long list of 4 and 5 star OL being busts over the past decade

That might explain why Texas hasn't been good over the last 5 years

Sure there are. Many make it. But, on balance, odds favor the 4*s and 5*s. Someone showed the percentage of each category making it to the NFL. Those rating groups don't bat 1.000 but I'd be most of the 4*s and 5*s that don't make it are because of poor development and/or character issues.

again.. we have recruited 4/5 star OL and they have busted.. OL is the hardest to project You think UT goes out of it's way to recruit only 3 star players? We missed out on Walker Little and lucked out since we took Cosmi when Little announced for Stanford.

OL is a whole different can or worms

This is the 2015 247 composite of OL
Ivey the #1 ranked OT was an undrafted free agent
Okeke #2 ranked OT was an undrafted FA
Hyatt #3 ranked OT was an undrafted FA
Sutherland #4 ranked OT was an undrafted FA
Bello #5 ranked OT was undrafted and doesn't have any NFL stats at all

OL is another beast when it comes to recruiting.
