Arizona State pulling scholarship offers

I can't recall the show, but one of them had an interesting piece on the NFL QB position lately. They took the QB starters for last years playoffs and where they "came from" for lack of a better term. For the most part, they didn't play at the "biggies" sans a couple. I'd say Michigan and Clem would be considered "biggies" from this list.

And if you go by conference "perception" it really screws things up. Image wise the PAC 12 and Big 12 are supposedly QB conferences and the B1G isn't. But, depending on who gets credit for Wilson, the B1G had 4 of the 12 and the PAC/Big 12 only had one each. ACC had two and the SEC one...although Tannehill's whole career was in the Big 12. Hell, I think he played WR until his junior year.

Seattle -NC State/Wisconsin
Philadelphia - North Dakota State
Minnesota - Michigan State
New Orleans - Purdue
Tennessee - Texas A&M
New England - Michigan
Buffalo - Wyoming
Houston - Clemson
Green Bay - Cal
San Francisco - Eastern Illinois
Baltimore - Louisville
Kansas City - Texas Tech
Are you trying to connect QB rankings out of high school to NFL franchise QBs?

I broke down the 2015 top 10 at OT, OC,OG.. I hesitated on the '16 class because many were still playing this season.. but if you look at it, it doesn't seem very reassuring.. so how am I talking out my ass about the OL recruiting? And again you are going by Mock drafts for this draft.. in October.. I'm going off the rankings in the composite vs the actual NFL draft..

You aren’t looking at the 4/5 stars and comparing how they are doing vs 3 stars. You are choosing an arbitrary number of people, pointing out that some didn’t work out and comparing it to nothing. I compared how many 4/5 stars were actual first round picks vs 3 stars. You know, an actual comparison, which is the whole point

All I did was take the top 10 by position along the OL.. which included ALL THE FIVE STARS.

But here, since you like to go off the 1st rd and you seem to think this past class (2020) was the regular.. Here is the 2019 NFL draft 1st round picks for OL.. Total of 6 players selected;
1- 5 Star (Williams)
4- 3 Stars ( Lindstrom, Bradbury, Dillard, and McGary)
1- 0 star (Howard)

All I said was that OL recruiting is the HARDEST to evaluate. There were a ton of misses in the 15 class among the top 10 OT,OC and OG. So I wouldn't be surprised if the ASU decommits did well wherever they land at in 2023/2024.

No. But I think trying to figure out QB success out of high school isn't as easy as rankings would lead one to believe. It just looks like the "biggies" in college don't really do that well when it comes to QBs panning out that well. Too many of them end up being "all hat, no cattle"...especially if you string it out all the way to the NFL.

I been looking at the 2015 rankings.. most of the top 10 QBs ranked had good careers in college.. Rosen, Murray, Locke, Stidham, Browning Locke.. then you have Francois who struggled at FSU, Blake Barnett who was at Bama and now is at South Florida, Wimbush got some starts at ND and UCF (didn't get drafted), Brady White is the QB at Memphis. Then you have Darnold and Burrow who were outiside the top 10.

2016 wasn't as good.. Shea was the top QB and we all know how that turned out to be.. some other notable top 10 QBs were Eason, Costello, Franks, Malik Henry, and Dwayne Haskins.. Some notable players outside the top 10 are Shane Buchele, Jalen Hurts.. Ian Book (#35..behind Jett Duffy #33 lol)

2017 Had Tua, Fromm, Ehlinger, Mond, Brennan, McCaffery, Tiny Tate in the top 10

I feel it's a safer pick to getting a good top 10 CFB QB for your team, than a solid OT in the top 10 if you had to draw names from a hat.

Kind of the weird thing with recruiting. There is a big deal with scholarships that MWC teams offered for backup roles. Recruiting sucks.

Good for them. Sort of learning to play big boy football, except there is no reason for anyone to know for sure the scholly was pulled. They will get the training wheels off one day and learn.

It goes like this ...

ASU: son, you can come and be on the team, but it's highly unlikely that you will get any playing time. Maybe you should look around.

Recruit: After much consideration with god and my parents I have decided that I acted too soon and will reopen my recruiting. I want to thank jesus and the coaches at ASU who are all great people. Respect my decision, I will not be doing interviews.

247 a month later: Billy Bob selected New Mexico State today over Arizona State, Alabama, Georgia and Clemson.
I would also add,

Player on Monday after ASU has recruited him for 8 months : " I have made my choice, I am ASU 100%, Sundevil for life"

Player on Thursday evening after USC offers : After much consideration with god and my parents I have decided that I acted too soon and will reopen my recruiting. I want to thank jesus and the coaches at ASU who are all great people. Respect my decision, I will not be doing interviews.

Exactly, that is the part that no one talks about. It isn’t okay for a recruit to renege his contract because a better opportunity presents itself but schools are suppose to honor the same thing. Put pen to paper otherwise it ain’t official.
