Athletic's Top CFB Program in the 2000s - first 25 years

Idk what the dumb criteria is, but Bama has to be #1

Makes the whole thing meaningless imo that they can’t even get the obvious top program correct
I agree and I wholeheartedly have tOSu at no. 2. It's not close. Then you get a mix of LSU, UGA, and OU. That's the order I would put it in.

Just like your mom

My mom's 97 so that means you are kind of gross.

I'd put Bama #1 as well, they had more bad than us at the start of the new century but I think the 3 extra titles make up for that.

See my thoughts about LSU above. They are the most interesting case of the top teams.

LSU is a interesting case.

They have 11 4+ loss seasons in the 2000+ time range.

When they are on they are on but when they aren't it's very Iowaish.
That was what I was commenting on when I said the it against LSU was the way they were up and down.

I really think if they get the right coach, they are the only team that can make a Bama like run. They have the talent in state, that talent rarely leaves to go elsewhere, and they have great tradition, and a great atmosphere. And they have plenty of money. Don't know who that coach would be, but you get one who can coach, they could be tough to beat.

I'm guessing they are penalizing Bama for being pretty bad for the most part from 2000-2007
That's pretty much what the article said. It's safe to say that the ranking was who was the most consistently good for 25 years.

Keep in mind that UTjr and UF were really good then. UTjr was on the way down, but UF was rising. And UGA under Richt easily could have played in 2 4-team CFPs in those years. Bama had some challengers in the SEC East.

I also wonder how good OU would have really been had they played in the SEC or the B1G. Texas sucked for most of the time without a coach, so they had a free run to the BSC/CFP every year so long as they won the Red River game.

There are few of schools that are the "right coach" away from being a real constant threat. The problem is finding that coach is hard lol. Florida is the same thing, they are garbage without that "top coach" (Spurrier or Meyer)

Ohio State isn't immune either, we were wildly inconsistent under Earle Bruce and John Cooper. Well I guess Earle was consistent at going 9-3 at least.

Ohio State has just not never hit the rock bottom that other programs have in our lifetime, a few "bad" years here and there but no real consistent bad.

Agree ... UGA was great under Dooley, terrible for a decade and half under Goff and Donnan, Richt was solid if not spectacular, and Smart is great. Who knows how long he will be there, and if he will have established UGA such that the next coach can just step in.

The only difference between tOSU of now/future and in the past, is with the addition of Ore and USC, might there be more competition such that having some down years results more than just dropping behind UM. In other words, with better teams. might one drop further if you have bad coaching hire. That said, tOSU had been consistently good for a long time.

That's it. Bama has lost to OU 4 times since 2000 I think.
They still have more titles than losses vs ou since 2000.. Give me 7 bad years if it meant that there would be a stretch of 9 title championship games in an 11 year stretch where you would go 6-3 in them...

Yeah, they have been wildly inconsistent, but they have 3 natties and got screwed out of a 4th(13-1 with a neutral site loss to Alabama>>>12-1 with a home loss to LSU)
