Best War Movies

9 of the top 10 are WWII movies.
Why is that ???

1) The Great Escape
2) Patton
3) Stalag 17
4) The Guns of Navarone
5) Spartacus
6) Tora Tora Tora
7) PT 109
8) Von Ryans Express
9) Inglorious Bastards
10) The Dirty Dozen
if you like WWII movies, you should also check out more foreign films, like the previously mentioned Das Boot, but also:

Come and See (Idi i smotri)
Army of Shadows (L'armée des ombres)
The Grand Illusion ( La grande illusion)

among others.

La Vita e Bella (It’s a Beautiful Life) is one of my favorites.

The Grey Zone is another worth watching.

The half that almost wasn't. Lee Emory was not originally cast to play the part of the drill sergeant. It was the guy in the Helicopter scene that was shooting at the Vietnamese civilians yelling Get Some. He was supposed to be the drill sergeant and Lee Emory was brought in as a technical advisor. Lee Emory was too good at playing the part so they had to fire the other guy and give it to Emory. I can't imagine anyone else playing that part.
Ermey, but yes.

I forgot about Come and See. I'd definitely throw that in my top 10.

All Quiet on the Western Front ought to be in the conversation of best war movies.

Movie making was in its infancy when it was made.

Fail Safe… if that's allowed.
Mosul, as I stated earlier, is the very best new war movie.
The Outpost is another great newish movie. So is The Forgotten Battle and The Bombardment.
I see that multiple people have Saving Private Ryan as their top #1 war movie. That’s just… just no. It doesn’t even belong in a Top 25 list.

Inchon, Harts War and Battleship should all be in the top 10.
