Better offense this year -Gonzaga or Iowa?

No it doesn't go in the trash. UVA was just more efficient on offense then were on defense.

Also, just take a look at the year before. Nova was #1 in ppg. #1 in offensive efficiency. They were also very good on defense, but not in terms of ppg allowed because that's not the best indicator of evaluating defensive performance. They were 114 in ppg allowed. But 11th in adjD.

Michigan was in the championship and the top 10 for points allowed that year. Nova wasn’t as good “defensively” as they were the year prior top 20 and that year Wiscy shut them down with defense in the tournament scoring 20+ under their average. I try to keep it simple. Stats are overrated imo

Virginia has been #1 in points allowed for about 3 years.

I don't care which stats you look at. I'm saying ppg scored/allowed isn't a true indicator of how good/bad you may be. Nova was #114 in ppg allowed in 2018. Yet they great defensively.

Don’t we just love stats. Lol

That year Villanova was ranked #114 on team D, they allowed 70.2 for the entire 2017-18 season. Yet in the tourney against stiffer competition than the Big East they allowed 66.1 points per game. Safe to say they turned it on when they had to after the previous year dominating the Big East. Nova was #16 the previous year allowing 62 per game.

this is why I take shits on stats. They are all decent indicators but completely can be padded.

Virginia allowing 60 points per game or less for 4 straight years while playing ACC competition is stupid good for a defense.

fwiw, the worst defensive team to win the natty since 2002 was ranked #18 in defensive efficiency on kenpom.

2018 Nova was ranked #11 in defensive efficiency. I think the nerds overuse stats, but i think kenpom is a really good tool to use for college basketball.

IDK what we are arguing about at this point? I'm saying the best indicators to use are efficiency metrics. Ppg allowed/scored aren't because you need to factor in pace. It's why a team like UVA can be ranked 210th in ppg in 2019, yet still have an elite offense.

At this point I’m just laughing really.

Ppg isn't really a useful stat unless you include pace of play and possessions.

If a team score 80 ppg but has 90 possessions per game they're not as good offensively as a team who scores 75 ppg on 75 possessions .

Thats pretty simple really

So many variables in Cbb. Hot teams heading into FEB/March is a tough one to measure. Not to mention the drastic top and bottom of Cbb where stats can be padded or the opposite.

Anyone who played b-ball knows defense wins ships

Pace of play is part of controlling the clock with solid defense is THE way to take an up and down the floor type team out of their game which happens all the time. No stat for that is there ? It’s also what great defensive teams do aka the strength of their team

which means taking a bigger shit on stats.

Saying Virginia was more elite on offense than defense is laughable. I hope you are laughing/joking

They were in 2019. Obviously not last year. Last year they were simply atrocious on offense.

More like 2019-20 season

This upcoming is the 2020-21 season

Been that way since time began, son.

Okay, then UVa sucked on offense last season. Not sure what the difference is but okay.
