What is funny is that if you could combine the football of Kansas State with the Basketball of Kansas and add the fanbases together, the merger probably would be attractive to a Power 5 conference.

more than they are at current but not sure still enough to garner an invite

He didn’t take one away, he gave an extra one.

The issue is that some of the smaller schools have runs of success and runs of lack-of-success. Two great examples are Kansas State and Iowa State.

Right now, Iowa State is hot but they have not been that way through most of their history.

Right now, Kansas State is NOT hot but in the early 2000s and at other times, they have had top 10 football teams.

I will give Iowa State this credit, though, they are an AAU school which makes them a lot more attractive than many of the other Big12 teams.

However, I look at it this way, do we really need two Power 5 Kansas football programs (Kansas and Kansas State)? Is the fan support and talent in the state capable of supporting this? If not, why not cut one off and setup the other school as the focus school for the state.
KState has good support for its football. Meanwhile there are high school teams in Texas that draw better crowds than KU football does in Lawrence.

I remember driving to Lawrence in the late 90's when the Huskers played down there.

You got parked in someone's front yard right in front of the stadium, game ticket in hand for $15. The peeps sitting in the lawn chairs had handfuls of tickets all together. $5 to park and $10 per ticket.

Are all these teams and conferences trying to make the best deal they can, or are the Orphaned Eight shit out of luck and nobody wants to talk to them??

Seems really quiet all of a sudden.

Has to be something going on.

A lot of reality checks

So, what the hell came out of this 'meeting'????
Nothing and wasn't meant to. Bowlsley needed to look like he was doing something. The new guy in the PAC had no reason not to take a meeting. He's learning on the job, and might was well have a chat. But there really isn't anything here that makes any sense.

Dey waitin' for TX/OU to dummy up their $76 million apiece.

i.e. $19 million bonus each per Orphaned 8.

So, what the hell came out of this 'meeting'????
I think it is like giraffe's mating. It is done at a very high level but the results are usually disappointing.

Probably went something like...
Big 12 - We're looking for a life jacket. We're screwed if you won't take us.
PAC 12 - We're screwed if we take you or if we don't. If we take you we're just adding more mouths to feed without more food. We already have a bunch of teams like what is left of your conference. On the other hand, it looks like you guys are as good as we are going to get unless the B1G wants to share some money with us.
Big 12 - So we're both screwed.
PAC 12 - Looks that way.

Logic dictates that Bowlsby wasn't talking to them about a merger or that puts him out of a 4mm job a year. He was trying to work some kind of scheduling alliance and the PAC is probably listening but not ready to commit to anything. The reason they aren't is that they don't know if they are going to cherry-pick the conference or if the B1G is going to take anyone so no reason to rush a deal that you don't even know what it will look like.

Here's a great podcast on this subject. I hated these coronbros throughout the pandemic, but their podcast is really informative and I think funny. All 3 have been around for a long time.
