I don't think our comments were directed at OU. In fact, I don't blame the schools but rather the Commissioner.
 
Embarrassing Factoid: From 2015 to 2020 (6 years), Oklahoma has lost only 6 conference games........and has won 6 consecutive Conference Championships. In 2021 we have yet to lose a conference game.

And yet Oklahoma still wants OUT of the conference so we can improve our recruiting and hopefully get back on track winning NC's in the SEC. Name the schools in the Big XII conference who would choose to play it safe and small time if they won at the same rate OU does.
 
The Big 12 is incorporated in Delaware. Only a corporate judge hears the case and they are specialized in corporate contracts. TX/OU are fucked in that regard. If they leave prior to 2025 they will have to pay the penalty + a portion of what their SEC revenue would be through 2025.

The longer TX/OU stays in the Big 12 the longer the media rights revenue stays the same and therefore the penalty stays the same X the number of years they depart early. Their best bet is to finagle a deal based upon 2020 revenue as it was reduced due to Covid.
 
Claiming the amount of revenue OU generated for the Big 12 is futile. It makes no difference they generated the vast amount. A contract is a contract and you can be sure that TX/OU were most influential in establishing the last contract.
They were the voice. Their attorneys wrote the damn thing. Either stay through 2025 or pay up.
 
You know why some divorces cost so much? Because they are WORTH IT. Same thing here. Break out the check book and write the bitch a check with a F You on the memo line. Then we can go live our life. Not to worry. Some greasy haired gigolo will pick the Hateful Eight clean someday.

Here is the situation from most OU fans' perspective. We tried to make the Big XII work but it just got to be too much to financially support some schools who were more interested in milking the system than building quality programs. So we bailed out and at first we were trying to play fair with everyone and cater to their wishes for making the separation as painless as possible. Then the rocks started getting thrown at us (no surprise and expected) but the !@#$%^& whimpering and willful blindness and historical revision have become too much. Bowlsby is leading that charge but the Hateful Eight's Presidents are following his marching orders in lockstep so they are not faultless. Now we want out as soon as possible. We are not delusional. We WILL lose more games in the SEC. We will not win a conference championship nearly so often. It will cost a lot of money to exit the Big XII. But the eventual goal at OU is to become stronger and make more money in another conference. Other schools drool over winning a conference championship. We are starved for National Championships and let's face it; being in the Big XII has led us into going 1-3 against the SEC in our most recent post-season bowls and that lone win was against a decimated Florida team. We need tougher competition, better recruiting and higher exposure with better game times. We no longer care about being nice; we just want what is best for Oklahoma and we are no longer going to hide that.

Which ones were doing that? TCU and Baylor greatly updated their stadiums big time so it must be some of the other six.

They have the 3rd largest stadium in the Big Xii and fill it every game.
Good, solid program the last time I looked too.

A lot of schools did. When I was in college we referred to Lewis Field as Rust-Oleum Stadium. When we upgraded to Boone Pickens for a few years is was arguably the most modern stadium in the country. In our time in the Big 12 we have new football, basketball, baseball, and soccer facilities, with a new wrestling complex that was delayed by COVID but is still a go. Iowa State did an upgrade to Jack Thrice. Hell, Kansas did some upgrades to their locker room and I laughed my ass off when it was announced as just a $1 million project.

The squat guys are doing a bunch of revisionist bullshit. I'm done with being pissed about it because whatever our future is it means we don't have to deal with them anymore. But the talk about them trying to keep the conference together while everyone else was sitting on their ass is bullshit. The lack of a conference network is squarely on Texas but they benefitted from the uneven distribution of tier 3 rights. Plus they aren't required to have any games on ESPN Plus. Everyone else outside of Texas has to play 2.

Plus with expansion, that wouldn't have changed a thing. What happened a decade ago was a reactionist move but considering what we lost necessary. The attempt at expansion 5 years or so ago, the conference probably (hopefully) talked to the networks and learned that adding more teams didn't equate to more value per school so it didn't happen. And let's be honest, there is no fucking way OU and Texas stick around if we added schools a few years ago. This was a business decision and BYU and UCF being in the conference now wouldn't have changed that.

I talked about it in my rant but as a reminder we seriously upgraded a lot of our athletic facilities in the last couple of decades.

Upgraded basketball arena when I was in college. Upgraded football field shortly after I left (and we needed it). New soccer complex a few years ago. Brand new baseball stadium that opened this year. Coming soon brand new wrestling complex. It's going to be a training facility I think because they wrestle on the basketball court and I doubt we see a wrestling complex that seats 16K. Also for football, we built an indoor practice facility.

Football should be easy for you to figure out. But there are other sports too. You have to look at the big picture. OU makes no apologies for what it's doing. The people doing the complaining are bitching for a reason. They want the money, honey. Too bad but the Good Times are coming to an end. Let the Hateful Eight roll with these new teams they're bring in to replace OU and Texas. From the comments they are making, the Big XII remnants will be just peachy keen. Good for them. Maybe it will all work out for them the way they want it to.......but it's going to be without OU and UT as their sugar daddies.
