Big 12 thread

I was waiting for you to bump this with some overly homeristic Texas article/video/idea.

Damn I was wrong on that one.
i saw a clip of Ikard and Lehman being pissed about it.. then some ou people that i'm cool with were going in on the school for upping the price.. I just toss in the broke shit cause it makes my teeth whiter when i say ou sucks and is broke LOL (don't take it seriously)

LMAO Jack Mildren told me one day when we were playing poker that throwing from one hash mark across the field to the other hash mark was like trying to hit a 4 ft tall receiver. Good thing we didn't throw much. :)
Damn you are old. Old Jack, the pride or shame of Abilene Cooper HS...depending on your point of view.

I may have shared this with you before. If I have, my apologies.

IIRC some reporter with the Abilene Reporter News was upset that Jack chose OU. He wrote a cynical article about it because OU had so many Texas kids on their roster when Jack signed with OU. In that article he wrote what he thought an announcer's opening should be for the RRSO. "Here we are ladies and gentlemen for the game between the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas at Norman, Oklahoma."

Jack was a great guy. But he was a lousy poker player. That was a constant source of ribbing between the two of us. The jock dorms were places something funny could happen at any time and since all the players lived together it made for a closer knit team. It forced people of different backgrounds to get along and get to know one another as human beings....not just some guys who wore the same color of uniform.

How on earth did I never see this til now?!?!?

Well this fucking sucks.

ESPN and Fox have agreed to do early negotiations on a new contract with the Big12.

I'm pessimistic for "the other three" conferences in regards to media deal...way more so than the quality of football they put on the field. More the PAC 12 and the Big 12 than the ACC...but the ACC ain't got a cherry on top either.

I just can't find any real "high eyeball" (the 4+ million viewers) games that the networks considered "prizes" and are willing to pay top dollars to get. The ones that offset the other conference "dog" games that come with the package. Those that draw interest from around the country...not just areas that have teams playing.

As hard as I look, I just can't find any.

Games between remaining Big 12 teams: Okie Lite vs Baylor? Nope. West Virginia vs Iowa State? Nope K-State vs TCU? Nope
Games with new Big 12 members: BYU vs Baylor? Nope. Okie Lite vs Cincy? Nope UCF vs West Virginia? Nope

Games between PAC 12 teams: Utah vs Oregon? Nope. Washington vs Arizona State? Nope. Stanford vs Colorado? Nope

A couple of ACC games MIGHT have the potential to get close...if FSU and Miami ever get out of their funk...i.e FSU vs Clem, etc. But Clem vs BC don't move the needle IMO.

Those type games I listed may draw local numbers (and some national numbers if they happen to be played when there are no "high eyball" games from the big 2 going on at that time) but they won't get big viewership IMO.

ESPN may pay them a little better since they need their inventory.. I'm guessing an avg of 34 mil for all 3 rights per school..

na 7 Sark will live up to his name
It seemed Sark lost the team's attention last year. If that happens again, Mandel may be right. Otherwise I think Texas will be in the hunt the entire year. I'm predicting by the RRSO, we'll know a lot about the rusty cows.

If they can get some time slots opposite games from the big 2 like Rutgers vs Maryland, then I could see some value. But not if the Big 12 game is a Tech vs Houston type game slotted against Rutgers vs Maryland.

What Big 12 game(s) do you see drawing huge viewership once Texas and OU leave? I only see BYU games drawing much viewership...and only then if BYU is any good that particular season.
