Big Ten Basketball

It is if you shoot it. I'd rather be top 2 in offense and 70th in D than the other way around. Offebse wins in cbb now. That said it wouldn't hurt to be better on D. While I think last night was an anomaly you probably aren't going to score 90 ppv in March either

If this were the NBA and you got 7 game series, I would agree with you. But in a one and done situation, it's really important to have a defense that can allow you to win a grind it out game. You need to have a chance to win on a bad shooting night, IMO.

Iowa's a tricky team this year. If they shoot it well, they can beat anyone. In a 7 game series, they probably beat everyone besides Baylor and Gonzaga. But all it takes is one bad night offensively and they won't have a chance to win. I like the teams that have a chance to survive a bad shooting night in March Madness.

Typically it isn't.

Things are definitely getting more offensive. But its extremely rare that a D as bad as Iowa's makes a final 4. In March the stats back up the obvious, its good to be high in both. But its much more likely to see a defensive team in a final 4 than one that strictly looks to outscore.

That said, if there was ever a year to be a team like Iowa. Its this year. Outside of Gonzaga and Baylor there is so much meh and basically picking teams out of a hat. Its nice to have a team that can put up 90 on command.

Through 22 minutes this is hands down the worst the Gophers have played

Luckily still only down 7 and have 18 minutes to make it up against a poor Maryland team.

Top 70 isn't good enough for a team with Final Four aspirations

It's not a hard and fast rule of course, but 94 Ken Pom defense is pretty rough.

Right now NOVA is at 45 and I'd like to see us get that number down to at least 35 to have a decent chance for Final 4.

Ken Pom is just a metric, like everything else. But you need stops in the tourney to win 4 games.

That number can come down quickly though. Iowa wants to get that number to like 50-60.

Welp that was a fucking awful performance. Weren't ready to play, no excuses for that.

It was 69 before the Indiana game and likely would've stayed there if we hadn't fouled 7 tines in the last 90 seconds

I'm not saying Iowa is good on D but they're not as bad as portrayed either. Gonzaga torched us but they torch everyone. And the only other game we gave up big points was Minnesota and they only had 73 with 45 seconds left. Just went crazy the last 45 and OT. Otherwise the D has been really pretty decent all year

MD has won at

Wisconsin
Illinois
Minnesota

And hasn't beaten anyone else lol . That's weird as hell

Buckeyes lead the entire game on the road versus Wisky

Nice win

One of the big advantages ohio state has in close games is free throw shooting. Walker and Washington are automatic

I thought you were a Marquette fan?

I agree its not as bad as 94.

BTW, it's 98 now, lol...

Remember when Nebraska used to play basketball?

I meant because they haven't played a game in like a month. Not because they suck.

My bad. I thought you meant how they were winless in B1G games thus far. I apologize.

You failed to mention that they haven’t won a conference game in over a year
Ouch. Don't follow Nebraska close enough to know that fact. I will say, it is looking like it was a mistake to move from the Big 12 to the B1G. Seems like the athletics are struggling with the change.

It's been 10 years....

Yes, 10 years in and they are struggling immensely. Their football program is in shambles and their basketball program is a train wreck. Not really sure on other sports, as Football and Basketball is what brings in the money.

Would not have thought Hoiberg would be a big downgrade

I think it's still TBD on that. He inherited next to nothing. Actually has a top 25 class coming in for next year, which is rare given its Nebraska. He'll add some more transfers this off-season, and I guess within 2 years(2023 tournament) they'll be included.
