I was thinking about Big 10 scheduling and what id like to see changed
My thoughts
Start the conference season in mid December. Everyone plays everyone else 1 time each to start the season.
Hold the conference tourney in early February ( ideally the week of the Super Bowl with the title game being on SB Sunday). Winner gets the auto bid. This would guarantee balanced schedule for seeding in the tourney, separate the league from other leagues and gain max exposure during a time when lots of people are really just starting to watch cbb.
Last 6 games of the year would be podded
Top 7 in league
Bottom 7 in league
Everyone in those pods plays the other teams in their pods 1 more time
This guarantees huge exposure games for the league the last 3-4 weeks prior to selection Sunday and also guarantees the leagues top teams won't be coming off playing 3 or 4 games on consecutive days prior to the ncaa tourney
The league would also have more flexibility in scheduling ooc games as you could play some the last 4 weeks if you wanted
Using last years standings we would've seen
1 pod
Michigan
Illinois
Iowa
Ohio St
Purdue
Wisconsin
Rutgers
2 pod
MSU
MD
Penn St
Minnesota
Indiana
NW
Nebraska
So the last 4 weeks would've seen huge games between teams in pod 1 with no snoozer games
It would really up the importance of early season league games as you'd want to be in pod 1 to help your resume. Having the conference tourney after the initial round Robin would boost the leagues visibility and allowing teams to stay fresh on March obviously helps
Thoughts ?
