Big Ten Basketball

It's early, but damn Michigan looks good. So many options and great depth.

Yeah, pretty brutal game. The guard play was pretty bad this game. Frontcourt, overall looks really solid. Garcia, Fox, Edmonds and a healthy Mitchell is pretty good. Patterson needs to be way better.

Yeah the biggest issue aside from annual free throws shooting. Is I don't know if any of these guards can break down a big 10 big. Very minimal dribble penetration even against Omaha. Patterson had some good mid range late. He's gotta be more aggressive.

Also appears once again most of our offense is just feed Dawson and everyone watch. It just doesn't work. I don't think its his fault. But its mind blowing with a guy that has his talent and mobility we don't run sets around him getting the ball and making plays.

Team went on the run to get the game back when he was in foul trouble because it literally forced everyone else to hunt.

Edmonds is nice. He's limited but very active. Got a nice little Oso like push shot. Free throws are pretty gross. But very solid bench big with athleticism and length.

Asuma is raw, but I think he's probably the guard with the highest ceiling. Hopefully by B1G play he's more of a factor. Getting a Christie like impact from him, would really benefit this specific group.

Yeah, I agree it's very Dawson centric. There does need to be more flow on offense with him out there.

Agreed, I like Edmonds as a serviceable back up big guy. I was pleasantly surprised by his little push shot.

Damn, Dusty May just stole 3 points right there with that quick TO before half. Great awareness. Since it was a use it or lose it TO. Not sure how many coaches do that.

I think Asuma will be a great player down the line. Not sure he will be anywhere close to Christie as a freshman but he's very talented

Honestly, while it sucks for MM, there might be some upside if Mitchell misses some time with the ankle. Get Asuma key run pre big10 play.

This Michigan/Wake Forest game is really good. Should have a good finish coming up.

think its interesting that Cason was on the bench during crunch time. he was the one that could consistently penetrate the lane for Michigan.

Yeah I thought that was interesting too. He's a pretty good FR. My guess is that's why he was. It looked as though Gayle was the go to guy at the end, but he was pretty bad in the 2nd half so I'm not sure about that strategy.

Not sure what to make of Iowa yet

Lots of shooting ( per usual ) . Some nice athletes on the wings

Still not sold on Harding as a true B10 level PG but i do really like Thelwell and think he may end up starting

Solid win tonight especially without Freeman but we are going to need him to play really well in B10 play because our depth at C odds fucking abysmal

Should know more after Wazzu and Utah State. If we can get 1 out of those 2 I'll feel pretty good

Ben Johnson and Kyle Neptune gonna be comparing unemployment notes soon

Guy literally does not coach offense I don't think

North Texas has a solid squad so not too surprising of a result but how it happened was ugly for sure

They just literally don’t have an offense. Again.

There’s missing open shots, and then there’s having no offense to even generate those shots to miss. The gophers are the ladder.

Gophers have like six 5 years seniors or some shit and look completely incompetent. This season is shaping up like Monson's last. Hopefully CBJ does something similar to what Monson did.

I wanna give Mitchell a little time back from injury. But that dude is so fat and slow. They went right at him

Patterson is too slow as a guard. Odukale was never an offensive guy. But he’s fully inept now.

Rigsby. If a guy goes from community college or whatever to oregon, then leaves Oregon(good school). Should probably know the speed of high major D1 is a lot for him.

Edmunds is the one guy who looks like a legit high major role player. And yes, he’s a role player.

BJ offense of over dribbling at top of key for 20 seconds sucks. But a guard like Hawkins can still make it work. Non athletic or no true points cant. Patterson and Odukale handling the ball is like Cooper and Samuals. Nightmare O

I defended Ben Johnson early, I wasn't thrilled with the hire, but was willing to let it play out. It's played out and it's worse than I thought

Not sure where to go from here

Recruiting is a big issue, we just haven't had the talent, is it that ben can't recruit, or no recruits want to come MN, probably mix of both

I'm of the mindset that literally anybody would be an upgrade. He's made the NCAA tournament once as an assistant or HC in like 12 years of coaching at this level. He's failed his way to getting a P5 HC gig. It's quite astonishing actually. It was a terrible hire.

It depends on what the admin wants to do. They need to embrace the current landscape. Will Wade or Bryce Drew would be a great hire IMO. Niko Medved would be more of a safe hire. Still an upgrade though. Knowing what we know about the transfer portal and NIL, getting rid of Pitino in hindsight probably wasn't the correct decision. Looks like he'll have New Mexico back in the tournament again.

Im hoping Freeman is good to go for Friday

Can't see Iowa competing without him vs a solid squad

My understanding is that the thought process was that he was popular with MN HS coaches and he'd help keep MN talent home. I'm not saying the thought process was right, but......

I'd be fine with Medved

Oh yeah, for sure I understand that thought process too. But he hasn't exactly been able to keep the MN talent home. Holloman, Chatham, McAndrew to name a few. Having someone like Holloman on this team would be making a world of difference. He also completely whiffed on the 2022 class with JOJ, Carrington, Betts, Henley and Payne. Payne's the only one worth anything.
