Big Ten Basketball

Sorry man

Life on the bubble sucks and I know it all too well

The AD came out and said that Diebler has "met expectations" just shows how the Athletic Department sees the program, Diebler is costing them basically nothing and they can coast off the football program claiming success solely because of that. 10th place in the B1G and the NIT "meeting expectations" lol

Makes me even more mad that other B1G programs are moving on from their lame duck coaches while our AD gloats that ours is "meeting expectations"

Yeah, I don't understand the OSU AD using that phrase. Missing the tournament isn't the expectation. The Gophers just went through the worst 4 year stretch ever I think. We had no choice but to make a move.

It's because our Athletic Department carries the same "we are a football school" sentiment as some of our fans. As long as they aren't completely terrible (like 10 win season type) and they aren't bringing any bad press and the AD can coast off the success of the football program, they could care less. Diebler is cheap and he's a likeable guy personally who's not gonna rock the boat in any bad ways so im not holding my breath that he gets fired next year even if they miss the tournament yet again.

The AD Bjork is another lame duck too, he can be lazy with the rest of the athletic programs because he knows he will always get high praise for the success of the football program.

Talent eval seems to be a problem for Diebler,

His portal additions were AWFUL.

Bradshaw and Stewart were former 5* but their old schools didn't keep them for a reason. Stewart was ok/average at times but Bradshaw wasn't even close to even being a average B1G player.

Ques Glover was terrible too.

If he gets even average guys in Glover & Bradshaw's place I think it gets us over the hump.

We need to go after more proven production in the portal rather than chasing perceived potential based on past recruiting rankings.

Meechie bailing on the team also didn't help. Agree with your assertion on going after proven talent over star talent. We need veteran producers badly.

Is it Christmas morning? Waking up to Johnson being fired was glorious!!! Hell yeah.

Keep hearing murmurs it’s basically medved a job already.

On one hand, I’ll def take my chances with that hire. One that coulda happened years ago.

On the other hand, with this head start. I do prefer they don’t go full tunnel vision and do some duedilligence and kick tires on some names.

Yeah, that's what I have been reading too. I'd be okay with that as he's been really good at CSU and is an upgrade over Johnson. I would like them to try and go after some bigger names. Even as unlikely they'd be to land one.

If Thornton, Mobley and Royal return that's a pretty nice trio to build around for next season. You have a couple nice recruits coming in, so filling in another 3/4 pieces in the portal, and on paper you could have a strong team next year. Bradshaw being a bust didn't help. Need somebody who can be effective playing the 5 next to Royal. Losing Key ended up hurting more than I thought. He wasn't great, but he's been better than Bradshaw.

Gotta go grab another big in the portal. Unless the FR coming in can step in right away. Idk enough about him, but he's a top 50ish recruit so relying to heavily on him will probably be a mistake.

I wouldn't be shocked if Thornton and Mobley both transfer. Royal might stick around because he is a local kid but I can only assume that the lack of enthusiasm with the program trickles down to the players.

I pray Bradshaw leaves, guy is just a bad basketball player, like I said below he wasn't close to being even a average B1G player. I'd take some player from like the MAC with proven production over him any day.

People are putting too much stock into Meechie, I don't think we see much of a difference even if he had played the whole season.

When it comes to pure coaching Diebler did some baffling things at times as well, against Iowa at crucial points of the game where we needed to score he had our 2 worst offensive players on the floor (Glover and Mahaffey) which was just mind boggling.

I think he is in over his head trying to coach a high level conference program. If you are going to hire a assistant at least get one from a good coaching tree, not one from a lame duck coach who you just fired.

Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me this day and age about anybody transferring. If all stay, that's a good floor at least going into next season.

Still going to have to hit the portal for a couple contributors. Filling Parrish's role is the big one.

If you're Minnesota don't you have to at least interview McCollum? He's got to be top 5 for the national CotY ( probably should win given what he did ) and after 1 year on Des Moines he's not entrenched

I think he's in play for IU. I would absolutely take him, but I don't think we'll get him or he'd take us over his other options.
