Big Ten Basketball

The referee would have to be the biggest bitch in the world to actually call that.

Won't get an argument from me. I just read it in an SI article and thought how hilarious it would have been.

i mean it's twitter, but i get chuckle out of the badger fans turning on greg gard.

Dude has an NBA aged starting lineup and still has managed to not be able to win big with it.

True, but Wisconsin has lost back to back games once this season and won the B1G last year.

Yeah, that's true but they've had a significantly easier B1G schedule than we've had. They've only played the top 5 in the league 5 times, at this point and are 0-5. We've played the top 5 of the league 9 times. And we're 4-5. They've played the bottom 4 of the league 7 times, we've played the bottom of the league just twice. Also, our problem is not winning against the middle. 0-5 against MD, IU, Rutgers and Wisconsin.

Big week for my Hawks . Road games at Michigan and at OSU. I'd love to win 1

hey I'm sold on Wi not being great this year and team loaded in seniors, eek

I still think Wi would make a mistake firing Gard.

Some of those seniors just aren't very good. Davison is just a dirty player, he gets exposed vs quicker guards. Reuvers is ok. Trice is pretty good. Potter is pretty good. They have a bunch of average to above average kids, and it shows.

Wisconsin is one of those teams where they've all been around long enough that opposing league coaches know how to scheme them and game plan for them. However no one should be shocked if they go to the tourney and win 2 or 3 games. Same goes for Iowa and Rutgers imo. Experience is great but it also makes you easier to prepare for if you're playing someone familiar with you. That'll change come tourney time

I'd be torn on whether or not to fire him. He did a great job last year, but the years before that, he benefitted from Bo's recruits. Next season(assuming none of these guys come back with the extra year due to COVID) they won't have one single 4 star recruit on the roster.

The sad part is, the Gophers will probably still lose to them next season, even though their best returning player is going to be Tyler Wahl. Should that make me laugh or cry? Lol.

Tell that to Pitino. Dude has like 3 career wins against Wisconsin. Lol.

Ok ok . A GOOD coach in your own league can scheme and game plan for you better when he's familiar with you lol

looking @ Pitino's resume

man, he's a total product of an aristocracy. Before becoming a HC, his entire high-major coaching experience took place under his dad and his dad's most well-known protégé (Donovan)

first head coaching job was @ FIU, then Minnesota inexplicably hired him away one year later.

my favorite part about researching Pitino's career is finding out that he replaced Isiah Thomas @ FIU. lmao, i totally forgot Thomas coached at FIU.

The AD that hired him had a good track record at VCU of finding them next up and coming coach. He hired Anthony Grant and Shaka Smart before becoming AD at Minnesota in 2012. He couldn't wait to fire Tubby. Which in retrospect was probably the correct move, just given the staleness of it, but there was also the thought he could get Shaka to come with him. I don't remember what the coaching landscape looked like back then, but he was certainly a huge reach. He's been slightly worse than Tubby was, but everytime he's ready to get fired, he pulls a season out of his ass(2017 & 2019) or Covid saves him. If we don't make the tournament this year, he's gotta go.

man every high major job that opened up between 2011 and 2015 were desperate to hire Smart.

Yeah for sure.

It'll be interesting to see who our AD targets if Pitino is fired. He has connections at Syracuse, UNC, Boise State and Kentucky. He went to Drake, given the season they are having it might make some sense. I know we aren't a destination job or anything, so there will be some sort of risk involved, assuming we hire a Mid Major HC or a P6 assistant.

Devries would be a nice hire. He's done good work at Drake

Saw something that said BC is gonna show interest in him.

Gopher fans should send some money to BC to take him off our hands.

I don't know why they'd want him? But yeah, I'd definitely be okay with him leaving.
