The committee does value conference championships as well.
Not saying that Bama definitely misses with 2 losses, but it will be a tough sell.

Penn State had 2 losses IIRC.
The year 1-loss tOSU wasn't selected, their competition was 1 other 1-loss champ, and undefeated teams.

I don't think Bama should get in with 2 losses ... I'd hate to have to beat them twice, but the conference champions angle is a little trickier. It actually isn't part of the initial evaluation the way the CFP is currently run. The committee is charged with finding the 4 best teams, regardless of the conference champ status. Only once two teams in consideration are deemed to be equal can they take into consideration whether one is a champion or not. That's how tOSU got in over PSU a few years back. The committee found that tOSU was definitely the better team than PSU even though they lost to them because PSU lost to Pitt and got drubbed by Michigan. The fact that PSU was the conf champ wasn't even considered.

That and 2017. Alabama loses to Auburn bt 12 last week of the regular season and misses the CCG. We all know how that worked out.

I’m really surprised the committee didn’t send Ohio State to the playoffs in 2015 since Ohio State was clearly better than Michigan State. The committee has already stated that the eye test is more important than actual results on the field because actual results are biased.

One of the reasons I can't wait for the 12 CFP is to never have to hear them explain to me why UM is ranked higher than MSU when that was decided on the field a few weeks ago. Now, MSU shouldn't have lost to Purdue, and that has to be considered. And both teams have 2 big games left which will decide it. But I can't see having MSU behind UM ... makes little sense to me.

Fair enough ... the "best teams" standard sets the field and then it's a tournament after that. Unfortunately, the cousin fucking gumps got us that year. I do believe with our Rose Bowl against OU, and the OT game with Bama that was the best year so far.
