They should have gone with Spiders or Tribe. Tribe they could have said was in reference to the Cleveland community and the fanbase collectively, but Spiders would have been better than this.

Maybe Indians fans get them to do what the Columbus Crew soccer club did and after announcing a name change they got such bad responses that they kept Crew.

While Spiders is the odds on favorite to be the new baseball team name, Waiting For Next Year's Corey Barnes is here to rep The Guardians and give historical context for the name.

They can claim it's after a bridge statue or whatever, but in history, given the Avengers were so popular at the time of the name change, I am sure the Cleveland Guardians will be remembered by many that they changed it to the Guardians due to the popularity of the Avengers films during the time frame.

I know it's not true, but I've always associated the Angels to Angels In The Outfield. The Angels had the name long before the movie, but when I think the of the Angels, I think of the movie and that time period of their franchise.
