Coach Prime did the impossible!!!

Colorado played an exponentially tougher schedule in 2022 than in 2023. They played the toughest OOC of any team in 2022.

2022:
10-3 Air Force
9-4 Minnesota
13-2 TCU

2023:
5-7 Nebraska
5-7 TCU
5-7 Colorado State

They traded a 2022 win over 4-8 Cal for a 2023 win over 3-9 ASU. Not much improvement IMO.

They were arguably the worst FBS team last year. They definitely weren't that this year. They lost last year by an avg of 29 ppg.

And that would be a great success IMO. It's Colorado, they've been shit this entire century (minus 2016). Deion is annoying as hell, but they were better this year.
You keep saying that ... but it's not really true.

They aren't even built for real short term success

He may get lucky flipping a ton of the roster again and end up with 6 or maybe 7 wins in that ridiculous Big 12 next year. But that's about the ceiling.
The move to the new Big 12 next year will be a blessing for him. He should easily be able to go 6-6 against this slate:
08/31 - North Dakota State
09/07 - at Nebraska
09/14 - at Colorado State
TBA - Baylor
TBA - Oklahoma State
TBA - Kansas State
TBA - Cincinnati
TBA - at Kansas
TBA - at Texas Tech
TBA - at UCF

If Leopold and Kleiman are poached from KU and KSU, this is going to be a breeze.

I'll be the one to say it.

If a white coach to a team from 1 win to a whopping 4.....

no one would even have noticed.

Wow, incredible.

You focus too much on last year. It was the aberration. Over the last decade, Colorado has averaged 4.4 wins.

The only reason they will do better is if the competition is easier. They will lose 3-4 coaches, and they will have to rebuild the LOS from the portal which is really hard to do.

The Deon shine is off and it will show this off-season. There is a reason they just lost 3 of their top recruits - 2 QBs and an OL.

As someone said above, pimping ain't easy, and that's all he is.

I'm focusing on last year because they were historically awful for a P5 program. I'm not saying it's going to be successful in the end. I'm saying they were a lot better than last season, which is backed up by every metric. Doesn't mean they were good, or even an average team, but they were better.

They weren't arguably the worst FBS team last year. That's absurd. They played against the most difficult schedule any team in the FBS played. They faced 3 teams last year that didn't win at least 9 games - really think about that for a moment. 9/12 games were against teams with 9+ wins. Put this Colorado team against last year's schedule and he's likely going 1-11, maybe 2-10.

Dude, they've made ONE fucking bowl game in 15 years prior to him arriving (not including 2020). Making a bowl game is a success for the current iteration of this program.
Narrator: They didn't make a bowl game.

I know people are saying he will "easily" fix the issues in the portal. But I don't think that's the case

He got a few nice portal players last year by the majority were basically lateral moves to what they had. The biggest additions were clearly at QB and WR.

I don't think top OL and defensive portal guys are going to be rushing to go to Colorado over more favorable destinations.

I know what you are doing. What I am doing is trying to get you to understand that taking an outlier year and comparing that to this year as if it shows how well Deon did doesn't make sense. Let's take the last 10 years and average them - 4.4 wins. He came in under the average. And the teams he beat all sucked.

So, no, he performed about what you would expect Colorado to do based on the last decade.

Now, he did bring the circus to town, and if that's what Colorado wanted then congrats, they got what they wanted.

Let's not forget that he brought 3 of his best players with him, two of whom were his sons. And Hunter seems tied at the hip. Once they are gone, what will he have? Will he stay? He got into coaching because of his kids - which is admirable - but CFB coaching ain't easy. At least when done in a way that you can actually win. What happens when he sucks again this coming year and his youngest and Hunter move on?

Eric is also failing to point out that 2022 Colorado also played what was historically one of the toughest P5 schedules any team has ever played while failing to acknowledge the fact that Prime's team is winning maybe one more game in 2022 than the program actually did, and that's a maybe.

Yes, they were. Sure they had a difficult schedule, but they were getting blasted every game. They finished 143 in Sagarin (combining FBS & FCS) with a handful of teams behind them. They were awful. They were 128 in overall efficiency. They were 124 in FPI. They were 124 in SP+. They were right there at the bottom in basically every metric.

It's almost the early signing day and Colorado has fucking 9 commits' for this class!

At this point those empty spots arent being filled by a rush of big time recruits, gonna be a ton of random 3* filler.
He doesn’t have the NIL funds to compete.

Sure they weren't a very good team, but honestly go and find me a 12 game schedule any P5 team has ever faced that is on the level of the one 2022 Colorado faced. You are going to be very, very hard-pressed to find more than maybe 1 more win Prime would've gotten in 2022. That's it. Nothing he brings to the table makes that worth it.

There's no chance for development at Colorado either.

If you are a low 4* or 3* guy you are really setting yourself back going there with the good chance that Deion just cuts you loose after 1 season if you don't fit into his immediate thinking.

He’ll live or die in the transfer portal but kids aren’t going to be so quick to sign on especially on the o-line which he threw under the bus.

No o-line and you pack it up and go home.
