Coaching Carousel

No, but you can make it better.

Exhibit A: Gonzaga Bulldogs...

Gonzaga has the big red flag every season. Competition?
Marquette won a title in 77. And Dwayne Wade went there.

None of that matters to these kids today. They want to know what you've done lately. Like, how many titles have you've won Coach Smart? They weren't even born in 1977.

Well the Moser talk don't matter no more.

Shaka!

Lets go

It's an interesting hire in my mind because he's similar to Wojo in several ways.

I would expect recruiting to go through the roof.

So, I definitely think it will make things interesting.

I think their preference was probably Moser but they figured he wasn't leaving and wanted to get the ball rolling on this so they can keep some of the good, young talent they have.

Sometimes it's all about change of scenery for these guys, and the right class coming in, but he can bring talent for sure.

That's for sure.

All of these McD AA are picking Gonzaga.

No program in the country has an excuse anymore...

none of that has anything to do with my post

and in 1977, DePaul was a power. D-Wade being an alum is more attractive when it comes to selling Marquette than the title in 1977.

Yet everyone is expected to have a Top 25 team and go deep into the NCAAT.

a lot of them will have to be informed that Smart took VCU to the Final Four ten years ago.

I think the only Wojo similarity is the on paper resume of the last 7 years.

Shaka kept his teams consistently in the upper echelon defensively. Only thing Wojo was consistent at was his teams have TO problems and having a ball dominant star. Big thing about BEast ball is being able to grind it out.

Shaka still has 8/11 NCAA tourney appearances plus a NIT title. And I think making a move to the BE and getting the type of players hes getting should hopefully put us at a clear talent edge year in and year out(aside from Nova). Basketball school. More of his midwest roots. I just think this has career bounceback written all over it.

Gates could be a future star coach but so much uncertainty. Moser is undeniable lately, but still 3 years ago the guy had 7 years of scrub. He plays at a snails pace and has never recruited at this level. If we get Moser, the current team is gone and our portal moves would be mid majors.

With Shaka my big thing is, we could potentially if everything breaks right be considerably better immediately.

i think Smart is still a decent coach, but he's nothing close to the "future star in the coaching profession" projection that everyone had him aligned with back in 2014.

He had one top 30 team @ Texas in six years. That's pretty mediocre. Not to mention, he finished with a below .500 record in Big 12 play.

This could be a case of a bad fit, but we don't know that for sure.

Texas going after Chris Beard?

Chris Beard is at the top of the list of CBB coaches I don't like. He 100% fucked over UNLV. Took the job, was there for two weeks. And then ran to Texas Tech.

@Peter Gozintite

Did Beard also fire some assistant coaches before he went to Lubbock?

yeah, Beard is a major douche for that

that is why i was so happy to watch him get owned by Tony Bennett and the WAHOOS two years ago

I wish him nothing but disappointment each season no matter where he coaches.

Yea, I do think that was big.

They didn't want to go back to square one, and Shaka is a players coach.

Outside of Nova, I don't see much of anybody being good in the Big East next year. So, it's a good opportunity.

I remember your response was to my comment, so never mind lol.

Damn. Now have Texas, OU and Indiana all open.

Shaka to Marquette makes all the sense in the world. Great for all involved.

Reports are that Shaka won this thing in the last day or two. Moser was definitely interested.

Hopefully it works out, its the deal I wanted so I can't complain.

It is though. I mean would he 100% take Marquette over like fucking Duke or some shit? Unlikely.

But its been well reported that for years hes had his eyes on BEast job most notably Marquette, DePaul and Creighton in that order.

The reason everyone thinks he will stay at Loyola is due to his background. And its what Marquette meets but a far better league, bigger program and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay bigger budget. Midwest jesuit basketball school near his chicago roots.

I personally want Shaka more but this it the far more likely move.
Its not though, I have seen no where recently (or at anytime) where it’s stated Porter Mover wants to coach Marquette. It’s opinion. Just as my opinion is there is zero chance he Marquettes his first pick.

But it looks like smart is your coach.

Dude i have already stated that numerous guys have said it lol. Goodman and Gottleib both on their show. You are arguing your opinion vs well known facts by those in the know. Moser also already interviewed.

38 minute marker. Marquette has long been known to be the job he wants. It's got everything he likes about Loyola plus more
