Commissioner Brett Yormark says Big 12's expansion strategy is about 'going out west'

I think you mean that we would say 'fuck you'. We aren't that much of pushovers.

I agree though, there is NO reason that Washington and Oregon deserve more money than the Arizona schools.
Oregon football championships recent in 20, 19, 14, 11, 10, 09, 01, 00 shared has played for 2 national championships in the last 15 years.
Washington recent 18, 16, 00 shared and is 2nd in conference total

Arizona 1 93 shared 3 way
Arizona State total of 3 07 shared, 96, 86
but ok

Flag ship universities? they have Kansas and West Virginia.
They like the state flagship university, so yea KU, WVU (one of the biggest reasons that WVU got into the Big12) , ect. and they are losing OU and Texas so makes sense that they will go after those same kinds of universities albeit smaller brands than Texas and OU.

Sorry, but football isn't the only college sport.

I would say certainly Oregon over Washington, as Oregon has Track and Field. We have basketball and Baseball and women's softball, ASU has golf, baseball, and are attempting to do something meaningful in football.

Oregon has also done a lot within their basketball program, so maybe they are ahead of the AZ schools.

from the article

"A program that has national recognition, one that competes at the highest level in basketball and football, stands for the right things, is a good cultural fit."

Yeah - which is why I think we are an attractive school, because of basketball.

It's not like the Big 12 is in a better position right now. They too lost their main attractions and we have already gone over how what is left from both conferences favors the Pac by a fair amount. Both are talking about raiding each other, but expecting the Pac to fold and run to the 12 is kind of foolhardy.

Pffff. We deserve all the money.

with Oregon and Washington eyein the back door,
ready to jump at the first offer from the B1G,
it would be foolhardy for the Arizona schools
to sit on their thumbs
and hope for the best -

The Big12 likes flagship universities so Arizona, Utah, Colorado, are likely high priority targets and real possibilities for them. If they nab ASU too then that gives the conference two new/good rivalry games to go to the bargaining table with. I wont be totally shocked to see the Big12 get SDSU for that market and to get into California.
Cal, Stanford and Washington just scream BIG targets. Oregon is interesting, to me they SHOULD be the no brainer of the desired PAC schools, but the waters seem to be muddy on where they end up.
@Kachina Doesn't ASU have a larger enrollment than UA? But UA doesn't have the "State" tagged to it so I guess they could be considered the flagship university even with a smaller enrollment. But the state of Ohio doesn't have it that way fo sho.

I'm almost certain they do, especially if you include their online presence. They are also in metro Phoenix so that goes in their favor, but I'm not sure I'd consider one the flagship over the other.

They need to bring in the ghost of Frank Kush.

"eyeing the backdoor" No one else can leave the conf for 3 more years no matter what they may wish.

There is no urgent rush to sign anything.

They are fine with Herm. Just fine...
Herm's defensive line coach was a classmate of my youngest daughter growing up in EP. In fact, he and one of his teammates ruined our coach roughousing one day in high school. I remind him every time we see him he owes me for 1/2 a couch.

Wow - you said 'ruined your coach', I assume they raped him.

Turns out you meant COUCH. Got it.

No one in the Pac will leave until they know what the final offer from a new round of TV rights will be and what share they negotiate. Doubt they sign a new PAC deal right away either as that becomes bargaining power for other conferences. It's going to take time to work it all out
