Without a doubt it is hitting the lottery -- How many kids get to college and grow 3-4 inches, add 50 lbs and go from average/below average speed (4.6 in high school) to elite speed 4.3/4.4) in college? And yes -- you can talk about his counterpart, but it was Gardner who made Cincy's defense what it was. If ANY fan of a college team should realize this -- i'd think it would be an OSU fan. Take a look at OSU's defense the last couple years when they haven't had a CB to lockdown half the field, like they had all the years prior with Ward, Okudah, Lattimore, etc. etc.Saying Fickell "hit the lottery" is very ignorant. That doesn't just happen by luck, he's just a very good coach. Also SOS in 2021 is irrelevant when it's made up in recruiting and the portal, two things that will be stepped up considerably for Fickell at Wisconsin.
Also michigan recruits so much better than Wisconsin but has had much worse coaching, hence why Wisconsin has been so much better in the CFP era overall. Not a very good comparison.
And Michigan had a stretch where we had brutal coaching -- you won't hear me argue with that. We also had a few years with Harbaugh where he wanted to go a 5 wide spread it out offense. We don't live in an area where we can fill our team with elite WR's and play that kind of offense. Another team that doesn't is...........Wisconsin. UM went to their strength, which is bringing in OL and RB's, switched back to a more pro style type offense and we've never been better than we have the last two years.
Let me ask you this. You think Wisconsin going to the air raid, that they will be able to get in a track meet with the teams like your own and have a shot in hell? No chance. It makes no sense at all for a team located in state where they can produce great offensive linemen and next to no skill position talent, to switch to an air raid offense.
Personally -- I think it is a huge mistake by Wisconsin and I think it will fail miserably. It reminds of when Michigan brought in Rich Rod. Wisconsin fans are going to lose their mind when they end up playing games that look like a basketball score, because Wisconsin will not have an elite defense with the offense they are trying to use.
