Crazy, bitch ass weather

Disneys Frozen Disney GIF
Too cold.

Snow won't pack.

A friend of mine's front porch.

They are cattle farmers and have to be out working in this shit.

My last house, the backyard was horrible for this shit. I got one little alcove that still kinda gets it, but we don't use that space in the winter anyway, really.

It's amazing the difference the forest makes, but I will admit, it gets a little unnerving when it's super windy. 100 foot conifers fucking everywhere, swayin' en sech.

I've got a cottonwood down in my grove that's easily 5 ft in diameter. It had to be 100 years old when it fell. It's never coming out.

We’ve got a little under a foot so far. Heavy and wet.

But with almost no wind. And I’m not sure it’s even got below freezing this week.

Not going to be good once the temps drop and win gets here. Assuming I’m snowed in til MLK day.

D’you have livestock?

Nope.

No plans on it either, but my gf does that barrel racing stuff and has a couple horses.

My barn has three really nice stables so if someone needed to isolate a sick horse from others I could do it. The corral is 4 acres.

Thought I remembered you saying you didn’t. But in front of that one door looked like hooves had been around.

My neighbors steers are having a blast right now in the snow. I can’t see em, but I can hear em.

Crazy winter storm, that's for sure... I'll take ALL the rain we're supposed to start getting after midnight tonite over all that snow.

But I just KNOW Mother Nature is probably getting ready to add us to her list shortly!!

LOL.

That must be from my dog and I going in and out while I was restoring it last summer.

That is the door where the stables are.

Didn't notice until you mentioned it.

The good life on the Plains. Quiet, peaceful, and a gazillion stars.

A view of my place from my pond last Monday.

I had the 3 acre pond dug in summer of 2022.
Due to exceptional/severe drought, the pond is only about 5 ft deep and the fish hatchery advised me not to stock it yet. It should be 12 - 15 ft deep with normal moisture. I should have put a well pump on it, but kicked the can down the road thinking this drought would bust. I'd love to be out there ice fishing for crappie, bluegill and yellow perch right now.

The big shed on the right is my next project this spring/summer. It's going to be converted into a 2 bedroom, bath, living room/kitchenette, with a fireplace, for friends to come out and spend a couple days getting drank and stoned. It'll have a log cabin look with the same hunter green roof as the barn.

My dog's got it made out here. Room to run and swim, but I don't think he knows how good he's got it. At just under two years I call him my "Baby Elephant". He needs to settle the fuck down and stop acting like a bull in a china shop. That red kong is the only thing I've given him that he hasn't been able to destroy. He's a pussy when it comes to cold. He whines relentlessly to go out, yet whines 5 minutes later to come back in. Figure it out mf'er.
BLACK LAB's MATTER tho so he'll always have a nice fire to lay in front of as long as I'm around. I'd put him up to protect me against coyotes or a mountain lion in a second.

Huntin, fishin, lovin every day.

Huntin, fishin, lovin every day.

The other day I was kicking back watching tv and noticed a coyote crossing the field across the way.

Next thing I know a rooster pheasant is walking straight toward it. I'm thinking "This is gonna be feather flyin' ugly, R.I.P rootie".

They stopped about 5 ft in front of each other and stared each other down for a minute. The coyote backed down and the rootie went on it's merry way.
Rooster pheasant have big spurs to defend themselves, so I figure that coyote had tangled with one in the past and learned real quick. LOL

The pics aren't real good because they were taken out my front window, probably 1/8th mile away, and snowing at the time, but you get the jest.
