Crazy, bitch ass weather

Well that was a doozy of a blizzard. Over 92,500 without power now.
The power lines on the county road in front of my place are down. I've no idea how far they're down because they're blocking the lane to my house.

At least your pond isn't frozen. If it is, then that stuck duck is in for a very long night.

Fired up the skidloader and got my lane cleaned off. I could get under the power lines. The power lines down the county rd are fucked. I got lucky that I can still get in and out. Likely to be on generator for 2-3 days minimum.

I thought it was peaceful being somewhat out in the middle of nowhere and it is.
It just dawned on me I always saw lights though. At a mile or two distance, but a light here and there.
Right now I see nothing. Dark as hell.
The power outage is widespread. I have lines down, but there are a lot of poles down within a 50 mile swath.
I figure 2 days minimum to get power restored. There are supposedly outside power companies whistling this way to help out, but we shall see?

Tomorrow (Saturday) will be day 4 without commercial power. The nearest town to me with power is 20 miles away.
I went there today for some fuel and grocery items.

The Volunteer Fire Departments in the towns nearer to me are providing breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a place to warm up for those in need, which are many.

Another perfect day here. This about 7 or 8 days of perfect weather. The bill to pay the Piper is going to be gigantic.

The line crews kicked ass down my county road today. They had 7 poles (cross arms) to fix in front of my place alone. I got commercial power restored appx 7pm.
The lines in front of my place are the main grid to the small town a couple miles away, so when mine came on so did most of the town's shortly after.
My generator will get a well needed rest. It's been running for 5 days straight uninterrupted. That thing's worth it's weight in gold as it kept me self sufficient throughout.

I've only been out here a couple years, but it was amazing watching the small town come together to help one another in need. I cleared out about half my deep freeze for free meals at the VFD. Smoked 6 pork butts overnight Thursday and donated those for lunch Friday. I'd given them a heads-up Thursday that I'd be bringing them by.
I also donated about 25 lbs of ground beef that I had from splitting a cow with a buddy last year. They made sloppy Joe's with that for supper Saturday. The women folk baked the buns and made all the sides/deserts from scratch. The food for every meal, breakfast, lunch, or dinner, was donated by someone in the community. Come get a hot meal and get warmed up, no questions asked.
Happy to be part of this wonderful community. Being a combat vet and transferring my VFW membership out here, they'd already welcomed me with open arms from the beginning. I'd gotten to know quite a few of them, but this was a little different. Rich or poor we all needed each other.

Love to read that, nothing more valuable than to be surrounded by quality folks. Glad your power is restored

The perfect weather ended this morning, starting about 5:30. A lot of lightning strikes too damn close, heavy wind, deluge of rain and some hail. 'tricity went about 6, so I went back to bed. It was back on when I woke up, but power still out everywhere outside of town. Lot of wind damage. A few cars and roofs destroyed by fallen trees. Once it passed, it's been perfect again. 75 and clear blue skies.
