Which director had the best run of three movies in a row, and what were the movies?

Fincher:
Se7en, The Game, Fight Club

Godfather
The Conversation
Godfather Part II

def worthy of consideration

Reservoir Dogs
Pulp Fiction
Jackie Brown

Quentin Tarantino

Hitchcock-

Vertigo
North by Northwest
Psycho

More classic, but that’s a hell of a run.

More recent, and maybe less thought about….Rob Reiner:

Stand by Me
Princess Bride
When Harry Met Sally

Princess Bride is maybe the weak link for many that negates it, but not for me.

Reservoir Dogs
Pulp Fiction
Jackie Brown

Quentin Tarantino
As much as I love all Tarantino I actually would go with these three myself (though I recognize this isn’t popular opinion)

Kill Bill
Inglorious Basterds
Django Unchained

Thought I would be able to get a great trio from Scorsese but he had a lot of random stuff.

Django Unchained

He had “Death Proof” in between Kill Bill and inglorious bastards.

That being said, his last 4 movies (inglorious Bastards, Django, Hateful 8 and Once upon a time in Hollywood) could also have a “best 3” combo.

You can’t just ignore Death Proof though. If we’re allowed to do that I’d go Inglorious Basterds, Django, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Jesus…. That was the most 🥷 of any 🥷 ever.

Ah fuck. I thought he only wrote for Death Proof. Not a completely horrid to me….but it breaks up the three. Plus Grindhouse is in there too.

I could go Basterds, Django and OUATIH as the three, but it won’t be right. Hateful 8 is in there, and that movie sucked!

I think you have the best Tarantino three movie run in your post.

And of course:

Fargo
The Big Lebowski
O Brother, Where Art Thou?

That’s probably the winning block of three. End thread.
followed by The Man Who Wasn’t There, which people sleep on. It’s great.
If I was going to play devils advocate, I’d say O Brother isn’t as good as people make it to be.

Same with Spielberg. I tried to go through and find a perfect three in a row, I just couldn’t.

If you could go back and make 1941 never happen than you would have Jaws, Close Encounters and Indiana Jones.

I loved 1941 as a kid, laughed my ass off. But, it can’t go in such a list.

Making it a three movie run makes this hard.

Kind of the same for Kubrick, though Dr Strangelove, 2001 and Clockwork Orange is a pretty solid three to me.
