DIY Monster Fish Tank

I'm all beat up and I'm gonna feel it tomorrow. I fell down off my toolbox to the floor today. More bruises.
My table saw threw another piece at me a couple days ago. After the second time it happened earlier this year I thought I had it remedied but it doesn't take much for the fence to be untrue causing the blade to bind ever so slight against the wood and shooting it like an arrow.

When I failed to lift the tank and it dropped down instead, that was also a bruising situation!

I gotta say I really admire your perseverance. You take a fall, you get right the fuck back up. You encounter a roadblock, you McGyver a way around or through. No bullshit here, just respect.

Well got damn dude.
I'm not nearly as sore as I thought I would be. I'm mostly just showing off, 'hey, look at my battle scars!' But my bruising gets enhanced by some of the meds I take... Plus old men, they get all bruised up just getting dressed and shit like that.

One thing I won't do is mock safety. Not only would it suck to get injured but I would feel like a jerk too.

Okay friends, it's time to tune in to THE Ohio State Buckeyes @ Michigan Wolverines.

The next thing to do is the leak test, fill it and leave it sit for four days while looking for leaks. And then drain it and start cutting holes for plumbing.

I hope it's not as leaky as that Ohio State defense.

I haven't started the leak test yet, that last piece of glass I put in was really a struggle and glue got smeared all over the place and because of that I decided to run another bead of silicone around that left front window. I will start the leak test maybe later today or else tomorrow morning. I want to toot my own horn because I got that tank stand and tank built in only about 3 weeks!

I wish I had more cabinets to build because after this tank build, making cabinets would seem like child's play.

I'm starting to get a bad feeling about the leak test

And you would be correct kind friend! I did the leak test on Wednesday and at about 2/3 full I noticed a tiny leak at about the half full point. I wasn't ready with a siphon hose either and it was such a slow leak, I just let it leak itself out down to the halfway point. I blew a big fan on the floor and I also run a dehumidifier 24/7 so most of the leaked out water has already evaporated. I just got it drained today.

This pic is during the fill.

And this pic is from today when I started draining the tank.
Easy fix.jpg

The leak is because I did a poor job with the silicone glue. It was an incredible struggle to get that last piece of glass in. The glass got moved around so much during the struggles that it interfered with the seal, it really is that simple and the fix is a piece of cake... AFTER it gets drained and completely dried. I will run another bead around all glass edges.

I been doing every step of this build by myself and it's not at all a pride thing, I have no other choice right now. So I gotta get this 350 pound tank flipped on its front side so's to get a good bead of silicone glue around all glass edges. My twin bro is going to come up in a week or so and give me a hand, dig that!

So it's a setback indeed but it will actually be an easy fix.

So now there is about a half inch of water left in the tank after it got siphoned. I will use the car jack again and lift one end up, only about an inch or two and then all the water will pool at the other end and I can finish siphoning that way. I estimate about 50 to 70 gallons of water leaked out. After I siphon that last bit of water I will dry it with towels and then put a fan inside and let it run for a week or until my brother shows up to help.

And @Peter Gozintite , I wanted to mention that I used your idea to 'roll' the tank in place by using just a single dowel rod.

And it worked like a fucking charm!!!

The Guide Bear whips out his 'Keep Score' book like a boss/beast and very happily applies another Bear Hug sticker on Pete's page!

So I can't get the siphon to start. Any ideas?
I'm guessing there might be up to five gallons of water still in the tank.
