ESPN agrees to 6-year extension for CFP rights.

Here's some good info:

The full financial terms of the agreement between TNT and ESPN are not yet known, but during its negotiations with the CFP, Disney-owned ESPN had put a $25 million average value on each first-round game.

The TNT games will be produced by ESPN and use ESPN broadcasters, but be branded TNT Sports, according to a source with direct knowledge of their plans. TNT could produce ancillary programming around the games, which could include a new show like, “Inside the College Football Playoff.” ESPN will get to choose the first two first-round games before TNT gets to make its selection.

ESPN, WBD Sports and Fox are teaming up for a stand-alone streaming product, named Venu, which will be available to consumers this fall and, according to executives briefed on the plans, will be priced in the $45-$50 per month range.

By working with Warner Bros. Discovery, ESPN is able to keep the entire playoff under the Venu umbrella.

I'm curious to see what the ratings will be this first season, especially going up against a couple of NFL games on that Saturday of the first round. Especially involving Mahomes and Lamar. My guess is those are the games TNT will likely get. Will they get over 10 million? I'm not sure they will going head to head with the NFL.

ESPN sublicenses more games to TNT. Including now a SF in 2026, 2027 and 2028. After seeing the ratings from this past season, probably the correct call.

Yep. The article I read said they are negotiating with MLB to lower cost there. Another issue was they now think they overpaid for several items...especially the NBA deal.

Their NBA deal is fine IMO. There's also a ton of wnba inventory baked into the overall cost of the package, and all their studio shows are heavily reliant on NBA talking points. I read an article from The Athletic that TNT paid a pretty significant price for these rights. I don't blame ESPN for doing this. The ratings probably weren't what they thought it would be.

Sending games to yet another channel cord cutters won't have isn't going to help those ratings

IDK. The games on TNT last year were very underwhelming. The Alamo Bowl and Pop Tarts Bowl had more viewers than PSU vs. SMU. Those games are going to get crushed by the NFL every year.
