Expansion is back... back again.....

They probably had to to get USC.

It's also about more than just football when it comes to the B1G

This is how we ended up with fucking RUTGERS
Actually you ended up with Rutgers for the same reason we got Mizzou. Markets actually matter if people were watching or not.

Streaming killed that model and its ratings that matter. Today neither would get picked.

Haven't you all heard, the SEC demanded Missouri and Arkansas be blood rivals so naturally the fans all went along with being told what to do.

I think a huge market like Los Angeles probably still matters.

At least UCLA brings something to the table in other sports, to make up for their lacking at football.

And in other expansion-related news, both Oklahoma and Texas have now got a big ass hole below the waterline that they need to get fixed before they mosey on over to the SEC and start playing a helluva lot tougher schedule. The Chicken Littles are really sweating right now but the Baghdad Bobs are positive everything is totally under control. Will keep you updated as events occur.
You guys will be fine in the SEC. Won’t have as many conference titles as you have since the Big 12 began. But that’s the fault of the other conference members for not stepping it up frequently enough to take them from you.

When Texas and Oklahoma leave, who seriously brings in viewership out of the Big12? What brand or brands can carry that conference?

At least with USC/UCLA leaving the PAC, the PAC still has plenty of markets and brands to carry it on.
No one and no one to answer both questions. At least on a national level. Only one close will be one of the new members…BYU. And that’s only because they have LDS folks everywhere.

Damn, I just agreed with OD. What the hell is wrong with me?

Laugh if you want, but B1G should have taken Arizona.

More fans in football than UCLA (even with just 1 win last year, we do much better with filling out stadium), and we have the highest attendance over the past 5 years in basketball.
Arizona State is much more valuable that that turd down in Tucson

I wouldn't say that as one school sucks at all sports, while one doesn't.

Either are better than f*in UCLA.

I think it was a travel buddy situation. UCLA also used to be a great football program but it has been almost 20-25 years and they were never on the level of a blue blood.

All-time, UCLA is the #2 or #3 ranked football program but they haven't done much in over 20 years while other programs such as Oregon and Utah have been far more successful.

It is kind of like Tennessee. Although we are still #2 in SEC in most statistics all-time, I don't consider us the second best program in the SEC anymore. I would put us about #5 or #6 at the very least behind Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, and possibly Auburn.

gonna be a lot of school with the color red in the new Big12

I see the point now.
I would never have taken UCLA unless it was a condition by USC
We're heading towards the monopolization phase of realignment going forward is my guess. After Notre Dame there's not a lot of clear cut adds to the P2 pie.. Maybe Amazon intervenes (they already overpaid to be thee TNF provider for the NFL) and changes the math enough to grease the wheels.

I was kind of hoping Amazon and PAC would align. Would be better than the PAC 12 Network as it currently is.

If that were true then Houston and SMU would no brainers.

Eyeballs not markets are what matters in today's environment.

Amazon overpaid for the NFL to get traffic and it's working. They are playing a long game that few can afford to play so it's a very unique situation. That being said what Amazon lacks is consistent original programming and that makes sports a big target.

This just feels like a window and not really something that would be extremely long-term unless the metrics proved it to be worthwhile. Overpaying for the NFL is buying a commodity that is proven. Essentially buying the PAC network not so much.

100%….and it is eyeballs willing to watch marquee teams…even if those marquee teams aren’t worth a shit at the time. A 2-10 Notre Dame will draw more eyeballs than a Houston team that is undefeated.
