You are leaving out a couple of details:

1. Dude that was shot was a lot bigger than the shooter
2. Victim was a social media prankster acting very aggressively in order to solicit a reaction and the shooter had no idea it was a prank
3. Shooter was a food delivery person so the fact he was carrying a gun means he has had some issues
4. Jury found the shooter innocent

To me, he had total regard for life and that was for his own, and truly felt threatened. The prankster was the one who disregarded others and was willing to put other people in compromising situations in order to profit from it. The prankster fucked around and found out and he should be liable for the shooter's legal bills.
