Gonzaga News

Heard a rumor over the weekend and would like to know your feelings. Memphis, Tulane and USF to the Big East, Villanova up to the FBS and those 4 plus UConn to become football only members of the Pac 12.

I don't follow Nova football.

UConn is still trying to get into the Big 12.

I assume one of these days it will happen.

Whatever happens, happens.

There's no way to judge apples to apples with conferences anymore with what the SEC and Big Ten have become.

From a basketball POV, anything having to do with the likes of Memphis, Tulane, USF, Tulsa is nauseating

But if UConn goes to the Big 12 won’t that hurt the tv deal for the Big East?

What’s wrong with Memphis, aren’t they good at basketball. I do totally understand Tulane and USF, that is the feeling of the Pac 12 schools too.

Just from our perspective, we want Memphis but they need a place to put their non football teams and it seems like it keeps UConn in the Big East if their football team has a competitive home. I guess it just made sense when it was mentioned.

We survived without them once and it can happen again. Memphis is a bubble program with a bad culture and has no natural rivals in our league.

I think from a basketball perspective, it's a win-win for every school in the new PAC-12 not named Gonzaga. If Gonzaga remains a powerhouse all those schools have a chance to benefit from beating them and getting higher tourney seeds.

I just question why Gonzaga, OSU and WSU didn't join the MWC.

For Gonzaga, it's iffy.

I think they had a good thing going with their relative cupcake conference. We'll see how it goes for them

Cause joining the MWC would be a net loss for the 3. What little tv money that would get would be split more ways

Memphis needs to get the hell outta the American. In the last decade the league has lost Louisville, Cincinnati, Houston, UCF and UConn. The league they entered no longer exists. Instead of playing those programs, they now play UTSA, North Texas, Rice etc...fans are getting the shits of it according to reports. It makes no sense from a football perspective, or geographical perspective, but from a basketball perspective, being in a league with Gonzaga and San Diego State is just such a huge upgrade. Not to mention programs like Utah State, Boise State and Colorado State who are all tournament quality programs once every 3 years on avg.

It's time to go.

nobody wants Memphis. i have always associated Louisville, Cincinnati and Memphis with each other, but every time there is realignment Memphis gets left out.

I agree up until now with this new P12. I'm not sure why they don't want too? If it's because of geography, I think that's a pretty bad excuse. It's an upgrade across the board.

From a basketball perspective, the obvious answer is to add St Marys.

Now, you're looking a nice conference and Gonzaga gets to keep their little rival.

The moves were made from the perspective of 1) survival and 2) football, I'm sure. But it looks like a basketball conference. It's a lot of pretty good schools and wins over Gonzaga can help their profile.

Once you start adding randos just to get enough 'teams for football' well, we know how that goes... (*cough, Big East)

That was more like it last night.

As has been the theme in all our losses, no one steps up to take and make a big shot.

Didn’t see most of this, but sounds like it was better than Thursday.

Weird that it's only going to be an 8 team conference. Would have been cool to see Saint Mary's there.

Yes, would have loved for them to add St Mary's. 8 football members, 2 non for a total of 10 teams. Play an 18 game round robin conference schedule. Makes to much sense so of course it won't be done.

Way to go Few. Because you had to start Joe, you made us waste energy coming back from an 11-0 hole to start the game.
