Guitar Porn - Show Me Yours

I've got seven guitars, but I don't play the other six combined half as much as I play this one. Taylor 312ce V-class.

I bought an Epiphine Dot Studio (I think I posted pics?) at a Guitar Center in San Diego in about 2012 and to this day it’s the easiest guitar to play I’ve ever seen and i can’t quite explain how. Literally perfect action and tone for a $250 guitar.

While not quite the same as their Gibson counterpart, Epiphone puts out good quality for their value prices, especially the last couple years where they've been killing it. The Casino and 50s Standard LP I've picked up the last couple years are really nice right out of the box and I could say the same thing about the Squier Classic Vibe strat I also got.

Granted, I'm not playing on stage for a living, so price was a lot more important as a basement player. I'm not good enough to where a top tier brand guitar with their much higher price points will truly make a difference other than vanity. Same with my current amp (Katana), even though I do miss my Vox AC30 CC2 from years back and may pick up another tube amp in the future.

Got my sister-in-law's wedding coming up this summer where she wants me to play Canon in D for the wedding party procession and Here Comes the Sun for her entrance. So I really need to learn/ practice those a couple times a week so I don't screw it up. Grabbed an ABY pedal to run both my classical (which I bought for the wedding) and acoustic guitars through my amp to make it an easier switch.

GAS will have to wait while I need to focus more on working with what I've got now.

Here Comes the Sun is tricky. It took me a while to get down mostly because I rarely play with a capo.

Good luck on your performance.

Considering it's just the bride's entrance, I've already got a slightly simplified version of just the melody down that is recognizable since her entrance will likely be less than a minute. I'll work on the real version between now and then to see if I'm comfortable enough to incorporate that instead.

I've rarely played for anyone else and never a wedding, so I'm mostly concerned about timing. How many people are walking in and at what pace.

With Canon, I can end on a D chord after every 4 bars or so. With Here Comes the Sun, I definitely don't want to end too early or have the bride at the alter while not at a stopping point. So I'm looking at between 2-3 minutes for the wedding party and Canon, but 30-60 seconds for the bride. I won't really know the pacing until the rehearsal the night before and I'll have to adjust the tempo and number of bars I play while still being recognizable accordingly. Let alone working with the amp to make sure it sounds good in that space.

Hence why I'm going to work to nail down the simplified and recognizable parts that will be easy to slow down or speed up, add or subtract measures, and have a couple presets in the amp that would be easy to adjust in the space.

What sucks even more is that her entire family sings and/or plays an instrument, so a mistake will be noticed.

I think slowing the tempo of Here Comes the Sun would sound good for a wedding environment.

Canon in D sounds good pretty much no matter what. You'll do great.

I appreciate that. The wedding is July 1st, so I know I've got plenty of time.

This all came about because I was fooling around with Here Comes the Sun watching TV in another room at Christmas, and my other sister-in-law recognized it and started singing along. She then suggested I could play that for the wedding and within 5 minutes I was on the "hook" to learn Canon for the rest of the wedding party as well.

It essentially ended up being an excuse to buy another guitar (Cordoba C3M) just for one song.... without my wife complaining, ha!

Now I have to come through with a decent performance, but I'll have another avenue to practice classical/ Spanish guitar afterwards.

USA Fender Jazz Bass. Bought it for my daughter back around 2014 or so for Christmas but it proved to be a bit too big for her, should have gotten her the Mustang. I kept it of course, figuring someone would eventually play it.

Turns out that someone was me - I took a break from acoustic a few weeks ago and decided to pick it up and give it a whirl. Now I can't put it down. Plays great and unparalleled quality.

Kinda wishing I had started long ago, bass seems to suit me way more. I picked up my PRS guitar today to try it out and it felt like a little toy.

I think i'm hooked. Cut my teeth on Smooth Criminal, Billie Jean, Holiday, Viva LaVida, Pumped up Kicks, The Zephyr Song, Otherside, Du Hast, and the first parts of Forty Six & Two and Money. About to tackle Californication.

Nice. I'll buy that PRS from you if you're taking offers.

Finally played for my sister-in-law's wedding this past Saturday. Again, first time playing outside of the house and while I knew I made several mistakes, no one noticed. Wife even complimented when I had to improv several more bars of Here Comes the Sun since the bride's procession was about 30 seconds delayed compared to the rehearsal and I would've finished before she even got half way down the aisle.

Was calm up until the moment I was to start playing Canon for the wedding party procession, but then nerves started to get to me. Should've brought a flask with me (dry wedding) to take a swig before the wedding began.

Doubt I'll ever play again for a crowd, but have a huge appreciation for those that do, especially at events like this where you want to be perfect for the day they've dreamt about for their entire lives.

Beautiful chapel and we had great weather, even though the humidity had my fingers "sticking" to the nylon strings a little. Now I feel I can go back and work on some new things since the last several weeks has been concentrating on only these two songs.

Hey! I can get score 100% on Expert on "Du Hast" on bass in "Rock Band"! :laugh3:

Ask me to play it on a real bass and I would probably score 0% on Easy. :laugh3:
