Guitar Porn - Show Me Yours

Spider chords, do you mean?

Mr. Dave Mustaine taught me those as well.

No, spider exercise Just lay your finger on 4 ascending frets play one note at a time alternate. When you reach little finger, move to the next string one finger at a time. Index first, leaving the remaining fingers in place. Hood practice for speed and dexterity

Ok, gotcha.

That's also good for feel for harmonics.

With "detoxing" from alcohol during Lent, I'll be putting some of that extra cash towards another guitar. Don't plan to purchase one until at least my 40th birthday in September to make sure I'm sticking with consistent playing. Already have my tele, so looking at something with humbuckers and have always loved Les Pauls.

Gibsons are nice, but can't see myself spending that much compared to Epiphone when I wouldn't be able to tell much of a difference. The new Moderns have gotten my interest with the coil splitting, neck shape, and look pretty nice in the sparkling burgundy or figured magma orange fade.

Hopefully I'll be able to get to a store during the next several months and try them out myself instead of ordering blind.

If/when I ever get a Les Paul, I'm getting an Epiphone. Good luck with your search!

I'd find it hard to justify the money for a Gibson, when I can always switch out pickups or hardware on an Epiphone. I grant that they won't have the same "depth" of finish on a flamed top, but I could get an Epiphone for 5-10 times cheaper and use that money on better hardware or a nice amp.

Then again, I can make a priceless guitar sound like shit, so practice is the priority and the reason I'm not planning on buying for a while. It is hard seeing all of the eye candy on reverb and sweetwater and not being envious.

I hear ya, I'll probably never buy a MIA strat for the same reason, you can get a decent Squier setup and modded for a fraction of the money. Plus, if you aren't that great (I'm not), an expensive axe won't sound any better.

I still look for deals everyday, but won't be able to buy another one for as long as the kids need money for things like college and food. Maybe 10 years down the road I'll splurge for something nicer. I am going to buy a mandolin, which won't take up too much space, but then I'll stop for now

Got a used mandolin today, a Loar LM520. I'm trying to post a pic but the site keeps saying "file too large"

Guy that sold it was super nice, he said "all i ask is that you PLAY it, don't let it sit under the bed or in a closet."

nice!
been thinkin bout
takin up the banjo -
i've sucked on guitar
for almost 40yr,
so why not try suckin at the banjo also -
Go for it! I sucked at bass for 30 years before switching to rhythm. I'm actually good on a 6 string. Then I decided I wanted to play mando, too.

I'm finding that I don't like using picks at all. I'm just never comfortable with them. I use finger style for everything, even with this mandolin

I finger pick the guitar and mandolin. Either Jerry Reed style or with banjo picks. First instrument I ever picked up was a fiddle, so straight picking didn’t come natural at all

Figured I'd revive an old thread with my newest addition.

Squire Classic Vibe 60’s

Next purchase will be the Epiphone Casino Worn in Olive Drab once it's back in stock:

Then I "think" I'll be done for a while buying guitars where I would've covered the "basics" with single coils/ humbuckers/p90s, solid/ hollowbody, etc. Even though there's plenty of wants still remaining, I'm going to get a tube amp for my next venture. Likely a Vox AC15 (used to own an AC30CC2) or Princeton Reverb that currently have my interest.
