Guitar Porn - Show Me Yours

I really like the color of that Squire.
I couldn't see it that well when I bought it but it looks great in direct sunlight. The guy selling it also had a black one for the same price but the green one just felt better in my hands

Thanks man, will give those a listen.

I don't quite have the ear yet to warrant buying anything expensive, but I do know that my bass amp just isn't optimal for some of the tones I want

You'll be able to tell the difference between each individual amp and what would likely suit your own ear. Keep in mind that most of the tone comes from the amp, not the guitar. While you'll want great quality in both, I'd rather spend money on the amp, as a good quality amp can make a cheap guitar sound good, but a bad amp can make a $10k guitar sound like crap.

Looking into buying a new guitar this weekend. Seriously considering a MIM Players Strat

I liked the sound of the Orange 12 best out of those low end models but the Vox also sounded good on certain tones. I've been playing for the last hour and fiddling with all my knobs on the amp and my guitar, and I don't really get much diversity out of the amp.

I'm definitely a vox fan in general, but depending on budget, I've heard good things about the Orange series, and the Spark and Yamaha amps for under $300, to go along with the Boss Katana I picked up.

Always check Facebook marketplace, Reverb, or a couple other markets that you can get a used, but good condition amp for a lot cheaper than new.

It does look good with black on black, but if I've always liked the white guard on black, a la Clapton.
That one has a Gilmore black strat look to it. I called ahead and they said someone dropped it and damaged it but they have a black with white pick guard and all white. Leaning toward all white.

I bought a Boss 2x12 combo amp last year that wasn’t super expensive but man, this is a pretty nice amp. Great for just about any genre and even powerful enough for gigging.

Cant really go wrong regardless of color on strats, but I'm always drawn to burst color schemes on all guitars. If the damage on the dropped one wasn't that bad, and they'd give a nice discount, it's just now an early start to a relic.

If I were in a band with local gigs, I could see that being a great setup, with 8 presets and plenty of power to get over a drummer in a small/medium venue.

I went with the 50w, single 12 inch since I'm a bedroom player, but could use it in very small situations. Should I ever get good enough to gig, I'd likely go with your 100/212 or a different setup, where I'd be looking back to the tube amp cohort, similar to my old AC30 and a few pedals. I'm a little long in the tooth compared to my skill level for those thoughts, so my 50W will likely all I'll ever need......but wants are a different story.

I originally bought it for my son to replace his small amp. He has gotten pretty good and plays with different groups. I liked it so much I bought one for myself. Maybe a little too powerful for my man cave but I don’t have to turn the volume to 11.

My issue is that I rarely play anymore, in spite of having a nice amp. My son has been coming over couple of times a week trying to encourage me to play more. I play my martin acoustic regularly but have been in sort of a rut the last few years. I figure a new guitar would inspire me.

Plus 1 is always a good mantra.

It's hard to maintain motivation if you don't have others to keep you "accountable" in a band setup and other aspects of life seem to take higher priority. Same thing applies with fitness and working out. If you'd not have others to help motivate that have a similar goal, you've got to have a strong self motivation. Online groups through facebook, us HN posters, etc can help, but it does get down to the basic idea of picking the guitar up, even if it's only a few minutes.

Since you do play acoustic regularly, what do you actually want to do?

Mainly just play more. Plus spend more time with my son. I started showing him how to play when he was 6. Now he’s 22 and really good but over the years I’ve gotten to where I rarely play anymore. Recently, we’ve been looking for ways to spend quality time together since he’s grown up and out on his own and playing music is one of the ways we bond.

For years, I've been telling people to invest more in the amp. Nobody seems to listen.

My son (8) is starting to get into music with some desktop bells we've got, along with my wife's digital piano. He's shown interest in guitar a little, but I want to see if it's more than talk and an actual interest before getting him a junior. Picking up my guitar(s) again was to spend some quality time with a mutual interest with the entire family. Hoping to stay ahead so I'm not dragging others behind when they want to play together.

Essentially, I like playing, but am ecstatic if I can learn and play together with my children.

Amps aren't "sexy". You never see a picture of an amp in the media, just a picture of a Strat or LP. They're not colorful and are placed in the back. Essentially, they're an afterthought, but are responsible for the majority of the sound/tone.

Good amps make all the difference. Back in the day one of my guitar friends had an expensive high end half stack. He was playing a cheap beat up Epiphone LP he gave 50 bucks for and upgraded with SD pickups and locking tuners and it sounded like a 2,000 Gibson.

Nobody wants to show or talk about their amps? I don't care how good your guitar or bass is, it's really only as good as your amp. I've always found that you can make a mediocre guitar sound really good through a great amp, but, if you have a cheesy amp, then you have a cheesy sounding guitar.
